It is understandable that you'd like to get rid of your stretch marks - they can often cause people to become self-conscious, especially when a large number of stretch marks start appearing after times in life such as pregnancy or excessive weight gain.

It's true that surgery can work as a treatment for stretch marks, but you should know as much as you can before considering this as a treatment option for you.

The problem with stretch marks is that nobody knows exactly when they are going to occur, or how to get rid of them for good. Plastic surgery for stretch marks, otherwise known as abdominoplasty, can help to reduce their appearance and get your body looking the way you want it.

But how does this surgery work?

Collagen is an important substance within our skin, and when it tries to heal from being overstretched it can start to develop excess tissue and red scars that show up on your skin - these are the stretch marks.

The skin is highly complex, and the largest organ of the body, which is what makes stretch marks so complcated to treat. 

The abdominoplasty procedure takes the additional tissue that makes up the stretch mark away from the stomach, removing the visible scars. However, it isn't quite as simple as it may seem, and there are risks that you should bear in mind.

There are a number of other, natural cures available, but they will have to be used for a period of time before seeing results.

If you can, I would always recommend trying natural treatments before resorting to surgery. However, you should also take the time to discuss your options with a doctor, who can put your mind at ease when it comes to the risks of surgery.
