There is nothing, not one type of shoe, prettier than platform heels. If there is a soul out there that loves platforms more than me, I dare them to come forth! I believe every woman should own as many platform shoes as possible, and I'm very grateful they are coming back in style. I have so many platform boots and shoes that my closet is overflowing!

Platform shoes are different from regular high heels in that they are built on a platform rather than an angle. Platform heels have a tall heel and the toe of the shoe is built from 10% to 100% equality to the heel. While some people think platforms are different from stilettos, there are stiletto platforms. The most recognizable style of platform shoe is from the 1970s. However, platform shoes have been worn for centuries and were even part of popular fads in the early 20th century.

Platform shoes reached their popularity peak and ebb in the 1970s. Mostly worn by disco dancers and teenagers and even young men, theses platforms came about, in my opinion, because of the need for comfortable shoes while dancing disco style. The 70s were also about glamor and style and outlandish outfits. Nothing was more outlandish than the huge platform boots and shoes, often worn by glam rockers.

In the early 1990s Naomi Campbell, a famous supermodel, wore a pair of nine inch platform heels and fell on the runway while wearing them. The designer was the funky Vivienne Westwood, a British designer who is known for her wild and beautiful styles with influences from glam and punk rock. Westwood is responsible for bringing glamor back to the platform shoe. However, the rise to platform popularity is directly linked to a British girl band group known as the Spice Girls. The Spice Girls often wore terrific platform boots.

In the mid-late 1990s, platforms took off in popularity again and these new styles of platform heels had no boundaries. Many women and girls were buying used platforms by the hundreds from used clothing stores and designers were churning out new and funky styles of shoes. You can see by my pictures what types of shoes were being sold and are still sold to this day.

While platforms aren't as popular as other shoes, they have received the much deserved acceptance as regular parts of fashion.

Today you can find hundreds of platform styles for any occasion.

Platform Boots

I have a large selection of platform boots. Some I even use for hiking. I find platform boots very comfortable and warm when hiking in the back country in Colorado. We have a lot of streams and I sometimes wear my synthetic fiber shoes so I can step in just about anything and not worry about ruining the leather or water getting into the shoe. Another great bonus of a platform boot is the comfort the heel brings you. Choose a large rubber sole for a soft cushiony walk.

Dynamite 600 Platform Boot

If you're looking to get funky, these are the boots to do it in. Mini skirt or shirt skirts are the best type to wear with these platform boots. They have little stars which can be black or silver. I personally like the silver, but then again I like funkier shoes. (as you can see from my boots).

There is no half sizes available in this boot. When choosing a boot go a ½ size higher.

These shoes ship fast, USPS 2-3 days and you have it in hand. For more expensive alternatives you can get them shipped in 1-2 days, but you will have to be on hand for a signature.

Exotica 2000 4 inch platform boot

While there aren't many places you can wear this boot, for $30 bucks the few times you do get to wear it are worth it. These boots are super cute and come in silver, white, red, black and two different pinks (light pink and hot pink). I like the white platform boots best.

Again these don't come in half sizes, so you'll have to buy the next size up.

The great thing about these boots is the stretch patent, so they form fit to your legs. Very hot and sexy. Great club wear or for a Halloween costume. You can use it over and over for many different types of Halloween costumes. For instance, a lingerie model, go go dancer, 60's diva or a stripper.

Guess Martini Buckle Platform Boot

I simply love love love classy platform boots, and this one fits the bill perfectly. The heel is sexy, the buckles are funky, but for some reason when you put them together the boot just looks classy. I picture wool skirts in grey and white and some snowy weather. I just love black platform boots (see my pic below).

The upper leather has a style that is both rugged and classic. Genuine leather boots for 70 bucks? Wow

PS: the heel is super comfortable because of the soft rubber cushioning.

Platform Heels

If you're looking to buy a platform heel, you'll find a wonderful variety of mules, stilettos and all other types. A few things to look for in order to determine comfort. When buying a platform shoe, you'll want to look at the heel first. Many platform heels are made of wood, which can be uncomfortable and hard. If there is a wood heel, check to be sure there is some form of rubber sole to absorb some shock. If you're looking for a more comfortable shoe, you'll want a platform which is at least 50% of the the heel. The higher the heel the harder to maintain proper posture.

Here are some best selling platform heels on Amazon.com. All have a 4-5 star rating with customers, I always think customer reviews are the best reviews. Platform high heels are always really sexy and sassy.

Woohoo! bring back the 70's. I love platforms - not to wear myself, but they're cool to look at.

I got them in Denver at a shop called Fashion Nation, if I recall correctly. Yeah I love them a lot. I really should put up all my other platform shoes, but we just packed them for moving.

Come back in a few months or sign up for my rss feed to see them when I add the pix.

Remember seeing a pair where the soles were a mini fish tank with a fake goldfish plants etc in them during the 70's!
