Music Speaks When Words Fail.

When my oldest sister was tragically killed in a car wreck, I found myself sitting alone with my guitar, the music that came from my heart was like a healing touch. The piano was where I found comfort when cancer took my dad.

Music has been a very important part of my life and I have been fortunate to be able to play professionally for many years.

Recently, while browsing through music videos on YouTube, I came across a video of a man with no arms playing a guitar with his feet and singing his heart out. My first reaction was fascination with the technique he used to fret the strings. Then, the reality of the frustration he must have experienced and his sheer determination to find a way to play music sank in--I was deeply moved by his performance. It made me realize how much I take for granted.

I began searching for more videos like this and was amazed at how many I found.

I thought back to the time I sat playing my guitar after losing my sister--and how comforting it was to play the piano while lost in memories of my dad--and wondered how different those occasions would have been without the ability to play music from my heart.

Would I, if life dealt me the cruel blow of the loss of fingers, hands or arms, find a way to continue playing music? Do I have the determination? I like to think so, but I hope I never have to find out.

The musicians I found are an incredible inspiration to me and I wanted to take a moment to write this hub in their honor.

Check out these videos of people who have overcome amazing obstacles to find a way to express the music inside their heart. Then, take another listen to your own heart. Find a way to express yourself--the world needs to hear your song.

If music is in your heart, it will find a way out!

Okay...let me dry my eyes here...kind of does away with the excuses, huh?

If it has been a while since you've played (or tried to play) an instrument, why not give it another try?

You don't have to be the best...just play from your heart. Learn all you can, but don't forget to play...
