More On Plumeria Tattoo

Hawaiian Plumeria Tattoos

The Hawaiian have always had a close relationship with nature and the beauty of the island that they live on. They have always especially appreciated the ocean and the many flowers that inhabit their island. There of course is the hibiscus flower which is commonly used in lei's and much of the traditional Hawaiian artwork. However, a flower that is equally as important to the Hawaiian people is the Plumeria flower. When you look carefully at many of the ancient artwork and even tattoo designs from Hawaii you can start to find that the plumeria even though it is a smaller flower is often right beside the hibiscus flowers. To the Hawaiian the flower is a symbol of Spring and therefor is associate with birth and life. So if you are looking for a symbol of liveliness and beauty this might be a flower that you can include in your design motif.

The Mayan Culture

There are also some traces to early Mayan carvings and art work that have Plumeria flowers in it. From the best historians can tell today from reading Mayan Glyphs the Plumeria flower represent the sun. There are many connections between the word sun and the plumeria flower throughout the Mayn and even ancient Aztec texts and glyphs. It is a symbol of procreation. They believed that the Sun procreated with the moon creating people. There are many different versions of this and much of the sacred Mayan texts have been obscured over time and can not easily be deciphered today but there are so many connections between the word for the flower and the sun it seems clear that the flower was as symbol of life and procreation much like it is for the Hawaiians.

Design Ideas

Today many people get plumaria flower tattoos all by itself as a single design. This is a great starter tattoo or one that can fit into a small space. It can fit just about anywhere feet, toes, hands shoulder and the back. It can be scaled to fit almost any location. Also many people get this beautiful flower as part of a much larger design. For example many Hawaiian tattoo themes will incorporate plumerias into an overall design. One very popular theme to get today is plumerias with a turtle done in a tribal style. However many sea creatures and island type of animals go well with the flower. For example a pair of dolphins swimming or encircling a plumeria is a creative design that can look great. It can also be combine with hibiscus flower for an effective design.

Best Placments

This tattoo is very versitle and can go just about anywhere on the body. It is more typically a tattoo that women get but many men will get these in combination with a larger tribal design also. For women the tattoo can go any where but places like the top of feet, a wrist bracelet tattoo and even the back of a neck or lower back can all be very sensual places to get flowers. The hips and ankle also work well. Really just about any spot. The size of the design and the fact that it might be combined with other designs and ideas would determine the size more then anything.

Cost

It is hard to say because the cost of such a tattoo is driven by so many factors such as the artist creating the tattoo, the design, and other such factors that can easily be accounted for. However, plumeria flowers by themselves would typically run $50 to $100 dollars depending on the size. When combine with other motifs or designs it can go up significantly from there. A lower back tattoo design that incorporate a plumeria flower might run between $100 and $150 depending on the intricacy of the design.
