PRINCESS CUTS
Layer your clothes with fabrics that fall softly or with semi-lined jackets, which are without shoulder pads. These can be combined with A-line bottoms and printed tops. You could team slim fit pants with long tops, preferably knee length.
- Women with large arms should shift the focus by wearing wide necklines and drop shoulders.
- Women with heavy waistlines should opt for empire cuts since they bring more attention towards the bust lines.
- To not include prints in a women’s wardrobe is truly unfair. Fine net or scattered motifs work best. Use in slimmer areas with dark tones like burgundy, wine, chocolates, navy, or black.
HOT TIP
Princess cuts work beautifully on large women. The A-line silhouette works well for formal bottoms. Fabrics should be lightweight and soft fall with not too much body or too tight.
FLOWING TO FLATTER
Understanding fashion is always about ABC-Accentuate your best parts, Balance out the not-so good, and Camouflage those parts that you want to hide! If you have thin arms or legs, show them off. When it comes to flabby parts, wear fits and styles that hide and don’t bring attention to them.
- If you have broad shoulders, never wear anything that is heavily embellished around this area. You don’t want people to notice how broad your shoulders are.
- Look for something that skims the area, but never goes too loose—that will just make you look bigger.
- Prints are really in vogue right now. If you’re tall and large then you can carry off prints, but make sure there is not too much white space behind.
- Choose prints that are in proportion with your size and height.
- A shift or baby doll dresses with print all over can work on some larger body types.
HOT TIP
Look for fabrics that have a flow—nothing too stiff or too clingy. Avoid anything that is shiny; it’ll only make you look bigger. Be confident and enjoy what you are wearing. That is really the most important accessory, and will do more wonders than any corset can do!!!
Flat-front pants flatter a larger figure. Avoid pleats as they add to the volume.
CLEVER CAMOUFLAGE!
If you’re large on the hips, wear darker tones for your lowers and wear tops, which cover your hips. Refrain from enhancing your waist and avoid skinny jeans and narrow leggings. Opt for trousers or jeans, which have a slight flair at the end so that your legs don’t look too skinny in comparison to your hips. If you’re bigger on the upper torso, wear open necks. The more skin you show around the collarbone area, the slimmer you’ll look. Avoid, garments with pleats or ruffles, they add fullness. Hide your extra bulge by wearing loose A-line silhouettes made of darker colors and free flowing fabrics. Avoid stiff silks and any kind of linen or cottons. Prints are okay as long if used in the right way. Horizontal stripes are a big no no. Opt for dark busy prints with smaller motifs instead of light large prints.
HOT TIP
Soft flowy fabrics that are not sheer suit larger women as they don’t stick to the body. Cuts that don’t accentuate any specific body part are flattering. If the upper and lower garment is in one colour you tend to look taller and thinner. Giving a contrasting colour to the bottom horizontally cuts us.
CUTTING IT SLIM
Big, large or extra, you can have it your way! Go in for a slightly higher waistline that sits below the bust line as this will define the slimmest part of the body and create the perfect hour glass body shape. We aren’t perfect and so we must try to enhance our best features and hide the unflattering ones! A common problem is a bulging belly. Avoid stretchy fabrics that will draw attention to it. Where pants are concerned, avoid the tapered leg. Go in for a straight leg from the hip all the way to the floor for a long, lean look. Classic black or grey trousers are great for an evening out. A deep V neckline with a slight curve at the waistline is flattering. If you’re tall, you can pull off a larger print but if you’re not, stick to smaller prints to avoid overwhelming patterns. I don’t recommend an entire outfit in a bold print but one needs a solid colour to break it especially in a dress.
HOT TIP
Pay attention to the length of the top; size is important as too large a size makes a woman look like a bag, and too small is hideous. Where cuts are concerned, proportion is the key one that plays up their assets and camouflages flaws. Fabrics like chiffons, soft silk georgettes flatter a plus size for a formal evening, while soft linens, cottons, voiles and pastel satins is apt for a summer afternoon. Whether you like or dislike your full body, it’s imperative that you feel confident and sexy in your current skin and find apparel that makes you feel beautiful inside out!
WELL HEELED
Large women need to wear very comfortable shoes, which don’t wobble when they walk. Avoid back straps because it’s difficult to bend down and tie the buckle or laces. Wear shoes that are not too strappy but one, which supports your entire foot. Avoid very high and pointed heels. Instead opt for wedge and block heels. Never wear a size bigger than your size or you’ll lose balance—custom-made shoes would be the best bet for your feet.

Well anyone showing too much thigh and excessive varicose veins looks foolish regardless of age. There is such a thing as trying to be "too sexy" that it backfires.
