The Thing About Podcasts...

1) They best ones are free.

2) You don't actually need an mp3 player to play them. All you need is a computer and the internet.

3) Having iTunes helps, but it isn't necessary to gather and collect and listen to podcasts. There are other programs to use, just do a search and read reviews. Some people don't like iTunes because they believe it to be invasive and ram hogging. I haven't really found that to be the case, but that's what I've heard. You can find podcasts all over the internet, so you could actually just save the websites to your favorites folder, checking them whenever you felt like to see if there was anything interesting and new to download. Then, basically, you'd have the same thing as iTunes or an iTunes substitute, without the use of any program other than your web browser.

Aldersgate Cycle: The Alderpod

Free Steampunk Audiobook

I'm on Chapter 9, and I must say, it's pretty interesting and well-written. And not just good for something you get for free, either. The author does a good job of narrating as well.

Set in another reality, the characters face their problems with an old-world determination and nobility. The number one problem is that there aren't enough daughters being born. Faced with all the difficulties that would arise with such a dire situation, you have the main characters, Emry, Cora and Brick, doing the best they can with the cards they've been dealt. Trying to have a good life, despite the social order telling them otherwise. All the while trying to keep on being decent folk. If you liked the television series Firefly, I bet you'll like this.

You can go to the author's website and subscribe to the feed there. Or, if you have iTunes, do a search for "Alderpod" or "Aldersgate" and it'll come up. If you don't want iTunes doing anything you don't want it doing, don't forget to go the podcast page and put the settings how you want them.

Ariel's Pagan Podcasts

If you want to listen to someone talking about paganism, witchcraft, wicca or spells, someone who knows what they're talking about, then this is for you. Plus, he doesn't talk down to you. I've subscribed to several of his podcasts, and none have been disappointing.

There's:

Ariel's Druidic Craft of the Wise Lectures

Ariel's Meditations

A Witch's Primer

Or just go use iTunes and do a search of these titles and subscribe that way.

Best of Current TV Podcast

Best of Current TV Video Podcast

If you've ever watched Current TV, they're only showing "the best of" already, better than most of the stuff on cable or the internet. And, better than that, they're short. So, hand-picked videos and short films, you get only the best of the best of the best, the cleanest and the freshest, most controversial, most informative, most disturbing, most entertaining, most beautiful, well, you get it, the most-est. From news to sports, from fashion to music, from comedy to art, to everything in between.

Go to podbean, or go to iTunes. Either way.

Best of YouTube

Best of YouTube Podcast

If you like YouTube, you'll like this. I've been on the internet for quite a while now, and was there when youtube started. But I haven't been addicted to it like a lot of people are. Although I wouldn't describe my relationship with youtube as "not addicted", either. And that's not to say I haven't somehow missed quite a bit of the stuff that everyone else in the digital world has watched. I don't like feeling left out.

If you don't either, go to their podbean page or use iTunes.

BetterPropoganda (New and Alternative Music) Podcast

It's a radio show that features the newest and best music, leaning away from mainstream music. Which just means, that in some cases, music that will make it's way to the mainstream eventually. I highly recommend it.

Past featured artists: Spank Rock, Carl Craig, Boards of Canada, Sun Ra, Four Tet, Brian Eno, Bonobo, Basement Jazz, Amon Tobin, Klaxons, Sigur Ros, Ratatat, Grizzly Bear, Animal Collective, Herbaliser, MGMT, Wolf Parade, CocoRosie, M. Ward, and Fischerspooner, to name a few.

Go to their website or look them up on iTunes.

Buddhist Geeks Podcast

Buddhist Geeks, Seriously Buddhist, Seriously Geeky

If you're interested in Buddhism, and you're a geek, then you'll like this podcast. They do interviews and discussions with knowledgeable Buddhist people.

Check it out on this website or look it up on iTunes.

Channel Frederator - Cartoon Central on the Internet

Free cartoons from cartoon central. Really? I have to add to that? Okay, how about cartoons, funny cartoons, that aren't on the cable show? Check it out on their website or on iTunes.

Crap Rap

"Crap Rap" Irish Cartoon Video Podcast

Funny stuff, well drawn, too. Two lads from Staneen, "the best pair of rappers on the school bus," Burno and Paulie, are not too bright, and in each episode some kind of silly-ness or dimwitted-ness will happen for sure.

Watch them on youtube, or get them on iTunes.

Dan Carlin

Dan Carlin's Hardcore History Podcast

History that you didn't hear about in school. Dan Carlin brings history (back) to life, told enthusiastically and knowledgeably in his own "outside the box" narrative. If you like history, then I would definitely recommend this to you. If you don't like, or never liked history, then I would also suggest this for you.

Read or listen to him on his website. Remember what they say about history. About having to repeat it if you don't know it?

The Disinformation Podcast

The Disinformation Podcast

A podcast for people into conspiracy theories. And, if you think conspiracy theory people are stupid, how can you make fun if you don't know the conspiracy theories? So, either way, you should listen.
