ONE WORLD A-WEEPING (Via 'Misfit')

When I was a little boy

I played my childhood games.

I'd watch my elders jibe and bicker,

Call each other names,

And follow all their foolish actions...

Imitate their aims.

In crucial years that followed after,

Just a lad at school,

They taught me how to sing the anthem -

Keep the ethnic rule.

I sang along with hope and glory,

A whetted, willing tool.

Then I grew into a youth,

Ready, rough and raw.

They slung a rifle on my shoulder,

Marched me off to war

And cautioned me to kill with honour ...

Serving Sovereign law.

A hero in my Country's cause,

A warrior in woe,

I rallied round the flying standard -

Routed foreign foe.

Now, with hindsight come of age,

Pond'ring bloodied years

I see but one fragmented family -

Fighting its own fears.

One kind - one need - one world a-weeping ...

Drowning in its tears.

Tom Manson.
