Poems Are Perfect For Weddings

Poems are magnificent for suggesting images, conveying ideas, and expressing emotions vividly.

Weddings are romantic. They are about love, about enchantment, about dreams, passion, a hint of mystery and lots of excitement.

Together they work beautifully. Poems are the perfect way to bring some of that excitement, hope for the future, and romance to your celebration.

So what do you do with them?

1. The first time you inform your guests about your wedding, you can use a poem to start getting people excited about your big event.

2. Somewhere on your program, you can place a poem to reflect how happy you both are, to introduce the theme of your wedding, or to say an earnest thank you to your guests for coming.

3. During the ceremony itself, you – the bride and groom – can use poetry to declare your undying love and to say your vows. You can also have poems read out.

4. At the reception you can use poems in lots of ways: to say thank you to your guests, to parents, members of the bridal party, other helpers. Also to say something touching and earnest about your love. And to kick off the party with some humour.

5.When saying thank you for your gifts, you can pop in a little poem to rekindle some of the magic of your wedding day.

Poems For Your Wedding's Save The Date Card

Why have a save the date card?

Are you inviting guests from out of town to your wedding? They will need time to arrange transport and accommodation. Some may need to book time off work.

Are you getting married in the holiday season? You'll want to ensure your guests haven't booked holidays then.

So how do you make sure the people you love are around you on your wedding day?

Well, you could pick up the phone, call and tell every single guest of the date and location of your wedding. The easier option is to send everyone a save the date card. They are also more likely to remember.

You'll want to include:

  • Your names (bride and groom)

  • The date of your wedding

  • The location of your wedding

  • A line saying the invitation and full details will follow

  • A poem to stamp your personalities on this early stage of your wedding, and texturize this simple note.

Here's an uncommon, charming poem:

This is the moment

We've waited for

We can hear our hearts singing

Soon bells will be ringing

----------------------Adapted from Hawaiian Wedding Song

Here's another:

Please save the date,

Sure it’s been a long wait

We wanted to be sure,

And it’s been worth waiting for.

-------------------Unknown

I found this next poem recently. I think it's sublime - what do you think?

We never thought that we

Could spend each precious minute

With just one special person

and find such joy within it.

-----------------Unknown
