Poems by My Children
68
My children like most children are constantly writing and drawing. There are pieces of paper all over the house of my kids work. Every now and then I collect them all up from their various places and go through them. Some are amazing to me so I will put them up for show on the refrigerator or keep them in a special box to share later. Just recently I found three poems, one from each of my children, that I wanted to share. I love the way children think and write because it comes from a place that is real. Where sometimes grownups hide their feelings children are open books. I love their honesty and purity and hate that they will most likely lose that one day.
Snowfall by SJ
Snow falls. Leaves fall. All day we play in the snow. The wind blows. The snow falls from the tree when we bump into it. Snow is fun. Soon we will have to play in the sun. It will be spring then summer. When fall comes it will be a bummer then it will be winter back to playing in the snow while the wind blows.
I Am by MJ
I am proud I am cool. I wonder how I looked as a baby. I hear people screaming. I see cats with black and white fur. I want tons of Lego people. I am proud I pretend I am a buccaneer. I feel supercalafragalisticexbialladoushis. I touch my hand. I worry I will die. I cried when I bit through my lip. I am proud. I am cool. I understand how to read. I say I am 8. I dream I played pro baseball. I hope I become famous. I am proud. I am cool
Winter by VJ
I love candy canes and cookies. I hear water falling and the rain. I feel warm and cold. I like to throw snowballs and drink hot chocolate. I play in the snow and eat food. I see ice and milk and white jingle bells.

Triplet, from one mom to another, that made me smile. I loved poetry as a child, still do. I used to be an instructor for a Young Writers Camp at a local university, and I just marveled at the kids' creativity. You're right, it all comes from their very pure hearts. Loved this!
Thank you K@ri !
MH - Oh that must have been so fun to do. I love reading what kids write what they have to say can be amazing.
You should let them come in the house some to warm up during the winter, TM.
