Sentry

Commanding and fierce
She stands
Solid
Unbending
Closed
Impossible to reach, until
She softens, opens herself
Reaches
For the hand of her child

  • Paint A Picture For Your Mom On Mother's Day

Painting a picture for you mom would be a very thoughtful mother's day gift.  This project will be of a moderate cost because you have to buy a canvas, paintbrushes, and paint.  However, if you are like me... - 8 months ago

  • Happy Mother's Day in Heaven - A Letter to My Friend

A Dove with an Olive Branch is a Symbol of Peace the World Over. It is very difficult to believe it has been two years since you passed through Heaven’s Gate. I will always remember that day, being so... - 8 months ago

  • 10 gift ideas to make mom super happy

Moms are people too. Despite popular beliefs, moms do have a life of their own. In honor of my friends, I've compiled a list that I'm sure they would appreciate. Hopefully it will inspire you to think about your mom, who she is, what she gets into, what she wants to get into, and hopefully this year, she won't say, "You shouldn't have" or, "I would have been just as happy with a phone call." Cause quite frankly, we all know what that means. - 8 months ago

Untitled

She glides across the kitchen
Spatula in hand
Her hair in crusted wisps
Like snakes encased in sand
Expertly handling the mixer
At the same time manning the broom
Toe curled around a lost binky
Eyes constantly scanning the room
And now she is saving a boiled over pot
In just the nick of time
To salvage what is left of the chicken
Being cooked for the second time
Of course the phone is ringing, too
And the neighbor’s at the door
“Hello? Oh, no I’m not interested,”
“Come on in- watch that pee-spot on the floor!”
She’s a goddess, slightly used, but unlike any other
She’s a mentor, she’s a master, she’s martyr
She’s a mother

Lament

Can I tell you that I’m sorry
For all the times you wept
For all the times I lied to you
For forbidden items kept
For times I acted like I didn’t know you
In front of all my friends
And made you feel so stupid
For trying so hard again
Can I tell you that my heart aches
For trespasses I now see
For all I did to you
For all you gave to me
Mother, I can’t tell you
The grace I’ve finally found
If only I could have told you
While you were around

Thanks! I'm honored that you're reading them! I did this post in response to a HubMob, which is such a fun idea if anyone is at a loss for a topic or just wants to feel more a part of the community (especially helpful if you're new & novice, as I am).

The poetry is amazing. The last poem really hit home for me. My mother is still around though. I think I will have to come up with something for her this mother's day, although I doubt that I will come anywhere near this moving work.

"Can I tell you that my heart achesFor trespasses I now seeFor all I did to youFor all you gave to me"

Beautiful!

Those were heart-felt and moving poems, Roobee. Thank you for sharing them. A poem is a not complete until it is shared, as with all art. Don't stop stoking the fire of your writing passion. Inspire!

Thanks christianesk, I appreciate your comments.

Uriel, I am both pleased and sad that you were caused to shed a tear. :) Thank you most humbly for reading and appreciating, as it really means so much to me.

Hi Brenda, thanks! The picture is my little guy & me when he was just a teeny thing. It's amazing how much he's changed and grown just since then (a little over a year). Motherhood definitely changes your perspective - and makes you reflect on your own parents, too. Thanks, again!

Hi RooBee! I followed Brenda over here. And I firmly believe I was meant to read these three poems this morning. You've captured wonderfully the complex essence of motherhood. Loved the line "she's a goddess slightly used"

And REALLY love the Lament poem. So true -- especially of teenagers:-).

Keep writing about your motherhood experience! You inspire me! MM
