Grandmother

G is for all of Grandma's flowers, each one of them had special powers.

Sweet they smelled and large they grew, Grandma's fingers were green, I knew.

Gardenias were her favorite though, and everyday she'd watch them grow.

R is for the radio, playing George Putnam loud and clear, her political opinion you'd undoubtedly hear.

"Our Nations President," she'd mournfully wail, "doesn't belong in the White House, he should be in jail."

A is for her special aroma. It makes you feel so at home, ah!, when you walk in her house or smell her spouse, Grandma will always be there.

N is for her never ending love of family, they were always number one in her book. Just get them together and boy could she cook.

Her meals were a production and man were they great, but heaven forbid you leave some on your plate.

"Have some more" she would say as she scooped a heap on your dish. To please all your taste buds was her only wish.

D is for "Dear!" she would say when dearest Grandpa did disobey. D is also for desserts, a sweet tooth she had. And as her Grandson boy was I glad. Twoheys Bittersweet Sundaes were always a hit, yes, dessert after dinner we did never omit.

M is for music so sweet to the ear, the songs sung at church she sang loud and clear.

Good music was all she let enter her head, "That Stuff on the radio's just junk's" what she said.

0 is for the old movies Grandma did keep, she loved to watch them instead of sleep.

Names like Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Debbie Reynolds, and Judy Garland did frequent her screen, and a rating above "G" would never be seen.

T is for the Temple work in which she took part. Her love for the Temple so near to her heart.

Her steadfast example to all she did give, her service to others that they might eternally live.

H is for Grandma's home and her hair, both neat as a pin, she always did care.

She slept with neck pillows to keep her hair in it's place. In her house dirt and grime there was never a trace.

E is for her Eternal companion, Lynn. They stuck by each other through thick and through thin.

R is for Grandma's choice of always choosing the Right. Keeping her goals ever foremost in her sight. You are an example to me it is true. Grandma I love you, I love you, I do!

A beautiful tribute to an obvious wonderful grandmother. Your son deserves kudos for his marvelous thoughts and thoughtful poem. It makes a terrific hub, and I can't help adding that the Bing Crosby reference adds much to its interest. Sorry it took me so long to find this gem, In The Doghouse.

William,

Every time I read it, this Hub reminds me of the greatness of the women it memorialized. My son was truely blessed to have such a wonderful grandmother. It is a rare thing today, and certainly must be recognized as a treasure. Thank you for your kind words...and yes, she made us ALL love Bing Crosby!

Oh this is simply adorable Diana. Your son has much to give to the world like you :) Whenever I remember my grandma (she passed away already) I recall those times we would go home to the province, I got the biggest bear hug ever. Thank you for sharing.

Michelle,

He actually did write this when he was 10 years old, it seems unbelieveable to me as I read it over now. Grandma's are really great. I was lucky enough to remember both of mine, and even a great-grandmother. All were incredible ladies too! Thanks for reading Michelle.

Wow this is amazing. i marvel at how a ten year old found words to express what most grown ups couldn't even try. At a time of such sorrow he was a brave little man. I'm sure you was beaming ear to ear when you first heard it. You have a reason to be proud. He also made me think of my own grandmother and I realize I need to see her more often. Thanks for sharing.

mother of three,

He is a pretty remarkable kid even still. I was humbled that he could formulate these feelings and express them at his own grandmothers funeral. It is a tribute that she would have loved, as I know she heard everything he said that day. Thanks for your kind words.
