Soldier

This poem is not true, but I wrote it and wanted to share it with everyone.

My child died for his country
Doing what he wanted to do
He did not think about dying
But chose to fight for me and you.

He was told he was going to war
They couldn't tell him for how long
Family rallied around one another
And we all tried to be strong.

He was told he was going overseas
And to fight a good hard fight
To go after our enemies
And not worry about which side is right.

We received letters and phone calls
From our son saying not to worry
We never imagined when he came home
It would be for us to bury.

When the plane landed on the ground
We hated to do the deed
But to prevent him from being a John Doe
The body had to be positively ID'd.

Save your prayers for others
That they will have mercy and grace
For we already know that our son
Is in a far, far better place.

I pray other mothers and fathers
Don't have to go through the same thing
But unfortunately we cannot control
what the next day's going to bring.

Just pray that God will have mercy
On you and your family
And if your child goes before you
That he'll be with the One Most Heavenly.

God Bless Our Soldiers and their parents and family.
You have sacrificed more than any of us can imagine.

Thank You for this. I am sure that a great many mothers and fathers out there would feel that you have expressed just what you have written here with love and honor. It can be difficult for one to understand when one has not been through what you have described here. Thank Goodnes you do.

May we all support our Troops
