Midnight Inspiration

Last night I laid down to go to sleep when I got the idea for this balloon poem. So I hopped out of bed and grabbed a notebook and wrote it down.

By morning I had forgotten all about it, but when I logged on I saw the notebook sitting there. So I fine tuned it and posted it for your enjoyment.

BALLOONS

When I was a child I loved balloons

The beautiful semi-transparent colors and the way the sunlight shone through them

The special ones that were balloons within balloons

The giant red zeppelin balloons from the neighborhood store

The 6 feet tall wiggly multi-colored ones from the horse races

The crazy game with scuffling stocking feet on shag carpeting

Or rubbing the balloon on your hair

And sticking it to the wall

Or pulling on the neck of an inflated balloon and making it scream then letting it go

As it raced in jagged zigzags around the room

The party games where you sprinted to sit on a balloon and pop it first to win a prize

And carnival dart games when the dart bounced off the balloon

Instead of popping it more often than not

And the summer night water balloon fights that left us all soaking wet and breathless

  • Seasons

Tears running down and down Snow melt rivers turning into rapids Seasons change Hearts change Spring blizzards crush early flowers Jack Frost is not ready to slip into the floes Not until he has his last laugh But even he cannot hold sway on the turning of the wheel

Please tell me why people think poetry has to rhyme? Most of it doesn't actually.

It is somewhat unusual, but some people have a balloon phobia. And some people hate that squeaky sound that rubbing a balloon creates.
