Poetry: Dragons
61Slaying Dragons
DRAGONS
There are some dragons we should slay
I think about them every day
But they are deadly, tough and strong
So we keep fighting all night long
Sometimes we bonk them on the head
Sometimes we poison them instead
Sometimes we study them in a cage
And watch them fly into a rage
We ask the king for lots of gold
For knights and peasants that are bold
The survivors grimly band together
And make more armor of maile and leather
Sometimes they multiply so fast
We think our village may not last
And just when we think they are defeated
Their deadly rampage is soon repeated
The dragons go by many names
You'll see them on insurance claims
Cancer, Diabetes. Aids, high blood pressure and heart disease
We need to banish them by royal decrees
We need to gather our courage and wits
We will get it done if none of us quits
This is one crusade the whole world must fight
Each one of us can be a knight
One of my dragon gourds.

I agree. It's quite good. Also, it's socially valuable. I'm glad I finally found it.
Thanks for taking the time to come over and read it.
Hmmm, before I posted a link to this poem the hubscore was 57. Two of you came over and commented and it dropped to 34. Isn't that backwards?
Maybe it will clear up in a few minutes.
I don't understand what drives the numbers at all really. I will say the same thing happened with my original Frozen Sparrow Haiku and it stays really low even with like 80 or 90 hits.
I don't think they are recoverable, but if you really wanted, it crossed my mind that you could simply re-do it into a new hub. I considered that with my sparrows, but later decided to just make an addition and link that one.
I believe that the HubPages algorithm does not handle negatives properly. Once a No vote is registered, the hub score can never recover. They get far too much weight! Ps. Slaying Dragons says it well; such beasts deserve a fiery hell.
Why use dragons as an example, dragons are not all that beasty or deserve a fiery hell. Nor do they go by the names Cancer, Diabetes. Aids, high blood pressure and heart disease. they are not even 'Animals', they are wise creatures even smarter than humans themselves
Imaginative and creative...I really enjoyed this piece. It's nice to see that there are others who still write rhyming poetry and are able to convey a real message. Not to slight free verse or haiku but I think it takes considerable more talent to write effectively in this style and ensure a smooth rhythm and flow, while still maintaining a rhyme. Very nice tie-in with present day "dragons" that are no less deadly. Really well done...thanks for sharing this!
To the user that didn't leave a name: It's a metaphor. Feel free to write your own poetry to glorify dragons all you want.

Thanks for your thoughtful comment. I must have hit a chord somewhere, because this poem sure seems to get a rise out of people.
do you like dragons
I like dragons. I just don't want to meet one in the dark.
