Poetry: Moonspiders
46Poem
When I couldn't find this on my hard drive I thought I lost it for sure. But I did a Google search and found it parked on a poetry forum from a long time ago. Whew.
MOONSPIDERS
First I catch an image out of the corner of my eye
Backlit by the lunar eclipse of the full moon
And I turn to watch
And there she is
An elegant spider, tiptoeing like a ballet dancer
Upside down
Along the edge of my open garage door
And as I watched her delicate dance
Each step lit up by the spotlight from the moon
Another spider came tumbling down closer to me
Like a bungee jumper down on a silvery thread
With more skill than a Cirque de Soleil acrobat
He hung from his thread
And I watched transfixed for awhile
While I sat there, under the garage door
Watching the lunar eclipse
And then I started to worry
That maybe right above my head
Was a whole circus of spiders
Waiting to tumble down from their silken webs
And I thought of my long wavy hair
The eclipse was ending
And I decided I didn't want to be there for the circus finale
