Political dilema, party allegiance.

new way of thinking

I have a new idea on how to reform politics, and get away from the majority, minority dilema. Once elected to office, each person becomes a representative of the American people, not the political party of their upbringing. In order to ensure that the American peoples will is being served, once elected each member should no longer have any party affiliation. They should no longer represent the democrats or republicans, but the Americans. Once elected they would be barred from any contact with party affiliates, or idealogy. If they are doing a good job, fundraising for their re-election should be no problem, in fact it would open it up to all constituents, not just party dollars. We need a system that ditches voting along party lines or agenda's, and each vote should be issue oriented as a single issue, not as a broader policy initiative. Bills should be voted up or down on the merits of that bill alone, not a mass exercise in political power. Removing the party designations will allow members freedom to voth their constituents wishes, having no reason to fear a party backlash. As public servants, once elected their allegiance is strictly to the American public, If we're going to get any meaningful "change " in this country, that would be a good place to start. after that they can deal with the lobbyist problem. Not that would be a huge help.

I agree with your position. The political parties are the problem. I know that lobbiest have free speach by the I'st Amendment. They can not and must be silenced, but it may be possible to legislate the illegality of elected officials communicating with them in a private manner. So while the lobbiest would retain their right to speak freely, elected officials have no right to listen to their private (back room) communications. All communications between elected officials should be out in the open so the American people can hear the positions, and give their advice concerning those positions. This would put teeth in transparancy, not the lip service it currently enjoys.

Sounds like a plan to me! I wish there could be a new political "party" and that would be FOLLOW THE CONSTITUTION TO THE LETTER Party. Term limits, total transparency and implementing the things you said and this country would be a far, far better place.
