Budget Deficit

Governor Paterson called for an emergency session of New York State law makers to address the budget deficit that this great state has, before it runs out of the money.

Few weeks back he offered a bill to bring the deficit under control, which caused a lot of noise, and discussion, and encountered a lot of opposition due to the nature of this bill which requires to cut the funds that cover very basic needs like hospitals, and schools.

Governor Patterson mentioned that everybody has to sacrifice something in order to close the budget gap. Even though everything is on the table for negotiation, and to be considered for dealing with this crisis , and finding a way to control the deficit, however in order to decide what will be the right path it might take some thinking, and discussion, which might take some time.

What will happen is to find a solution with minimal effect on the critical issues like schools, and hospitals, but if they want to keep these funds intact, they might not have any other choice except to raise property taxes for the suburban of New York city. If this ever becomes a reality, the democrat officials will have hard time to get elected again by those suburban residents, as they will not vote for these officials as they promised that they will not let the property taxes to go up, and in some cases they may even promised for property tax cut, and now they are facing a property tax hike. We saw this happened during election which was held last week, and some of these democrats lost their positions to the republican counterparts.

What is very important here is that the hospitals, and schools are already suffering from previous cut in funds as the result of deep recession and bad economy we are already in, and another cut will affect in a very critical manner the education of our children, and safety of the people if they ever end up to go to the hospital, and emergency rooms. These cuts make the hospitals to cut personnel who are working in emergency rooms, and such which are already overcrowded, understaffed, and dangerous for those who might need those services. It is not needed to say that schools are also very vulnerable if they face another cut, which make them to take other steps to cut the cost which will result in cutting services, and personnel . These steps not only put education of the children at risk, it also jeopardize their safety in school.

What might be the solution is a compromise between the two approach of raising taxes, and cutting services, which minimize those effects, however as it mentioned the matter of budget deficit can not be ignored, or delayed anymore, as this might ultimately cause this big state to go bankrupt, especially to get in the similar situation like some other states.

If that ever becomes reality, then we will need somebody like Donald Trump to appear on TV and tell us , New York you are Bankrupt!!!, the same way he is firing those people on the reality show on TV called the apprentice. He says, to those who cannot perform properly and deliver what they are required, "you are Fired!!!".
