Since its proclamation in the early 70s the Polokwane Game Reserve has established itself as one of the leading municipal conservation projects in South Africa.

The main function of the reserve is the preservation of one of the largest pristine examples of the threatened Pietersburg Plateau False Grassland habitat, along with its associated plant and animal species. It also supports viable populations of rare game species including Tsessebe, Sable Antelope and the White Rhino.

The interesting and varied habitats support a great diversity of other fauna that includes reptiles, mammals and frog species. The reserve also received the status as one of only eight important bird areas in the province as it got 300 bird species that include the rare Short clawed Lark. There are also over a hundred different grasses, over two hundred flowing plants and over sixty tree species.

The reserve has got an excellent road network for self guided game drives. Guided day and night game drives in open safari vehicles can be arranged and as a result of the private initiatives horseback safaris, guided bush trails and bush meals are also offered on request.

The 21km White Rhino hiking trail can be covered over a day or two and the Acacia trail is deal for a morning walk covering about five kilometers. The assistance of a qualified guide can be arranged. There are day visitor picnic sites and a large fully equipped lapa which can be hired for day and evening functions.

There are also accommodation facilities on the reserve that consists of traditional thatched rondawels, six sleeper chalets and a fully furnished Farmhouse that can accommodate 18 people. There is also a spacious caravan park and camping ground that is right at the entrance tot the reserve that offers comfortable modern amenities.

A mere 5km from Polokwane’s hustle and bustle you can savour the beauty of the African Bushveld at Nature’s Way Adventure Safaris. Go on a late afternoon game drive that will give you a chance to unwind after a day at work or sip a sundowner while listening to the rhythmic sounds of the African Marimba. If you can manage to get up early you can always marvel at the glorious awakening of the Bushveld morning.
