Repairing Pool Table Felt

Repairing Pool Table Felt

When you go to replace your pool table felt there are a few things to consider. The smallest tear on your pool table felt can mean a big impact on the way you play a game. Mending torn felt is considered to be one of the most common repair jobs that you will do to your pool table. When replacing a torn piece of felt it is best to replace the entire felt on the table to make sure that it is all even. Pool table felt is basically inexpensive to purchase. It can be found at fabric stores or gaming stores. And can come in a large variety of colors. Once you buy the felt that you need for your pool table there are different ways that you can reattach it to your pool table.

One method is by stapling it to the wood backing of you pool table. Not all tables will have a wood backing but some of them do. In order to put your felt on correctly you will have to remove the rails around your table. And then you can stretch your felt out tight across the table making it smoother. Using your stapler go around the table and do one section at a time. Try and put the staples every two to four inches apart as needed. As you go around the table try and stretch you fabric tight. The tighter the better and this will give you a smoother surface on your table. If the backing on your table is made of slate you can use glue especially made for fixing this problem. Spray adhesive glue is the best type of glue for doing this because it will go on even and hold more securely.

Wait a few seconds for your spray on glue to become sticky then press your felt down over top the slate. When you get your felt laid down smooth it out so that you know that the glue is attached good to the felt. Other things you will need to do when repairing pool table felt is to cut out pockets. Make your cuts for the corner and middle pockets. These cuts should be back from the edge of the wood to make sure they are back away from the game playing surface. Fix the excess fabric up underneath the table with more staples or glue. This whole process of repairing the felt on your pool table is easy and inexpensive to do. Repairing your pool table can keep your pool table in overall great shape and make it look like new again. Whether you are mending a small section on your pool table or replacing the entire felt on your pool table you will find the whole experience easy and stress free. Protect your investment by doing the repair yourself and save money in the process. It will cost you less if your do the work then it would to have someone to come and do the work for you.
