Cartoons From the 1980s

Remember the great 80's cartoons, especially the catchy 80's cartoon theme songs? I personally liked Ducktales, Inspector Gadget, Rescue Rangers, and Muppet Babies. But I know that He-Man, Jem, G.I. Joe, Thundarr the Barbarian, and Transformers were also very popular cartoons from the 80s.

Relive your memories by watching and listening to these snippets of 80s cartoons theme songs and opening credits of popular cartoons. There are also some 80s cartoon episodes to watch. More 80's cartoons will be added a little at a time.

I think you must be a little younger than me, those are all programs that my younger brother liked. One of my favourites was Battle of the Planets - do you remember that one?

Dan Sai Kid,

Actually these cartoons are after my time. I watched these with my kids, though, and fell in love with them.

I remember watching Saturday morning shows that weren't cartoons at all, like Shazam! and Isis. Remember those? And of course, the classics like The Jetsons, Scooby Doo, and Porky Pig. I'll try to find Battle of the Planets for you.

Yeah great hub, as a child of the 80's I remember a fair few of these, but among them all either he-man or thundercats stood out for me, I had most of the action figures..and still do today!! Ah! 80's nostalgia, and today it is brain rotting fan fair on the box, no wonder the worlds in a state, not up to standard cartoons anymore!!

Waynet,

I wholeheartedly agree. I'm going to search and find some more 80s cartoons. I'm missing some of the more popular ones.

I agree waynet - Thundercats was a standout. One of my best friends was obsessed with He-Man & She-Ra.

Hey Waynet and Livelonger,

I did it. I found the first episode of the Thundercats. You can watch the full-length Thundercats episode online free with the link I posted above under the cartoon video clip with the Thundercats opening theme song.

ATTENTION ALL CENTURIONS FANS!!!This is definitely a great cartoon, with all the technology it needs. It deserves to be on DVD.There is an online petition for this show, that is trying to convince the people that own the show to release them on DVD which is very cool, if we get many requests from fans and others, then maybe our dream will come true.http://www.petitiononline.com/6600F/petition.html

Dear Angela Harris

This site brings back memories. The thundercats used to be my favorite show and now I am glad that I get to watch it again. I was wondering if you ever thought about posting Alvin and the chipmunks. I heard it was considered to be a popular 80s show and I have seen maybe two episodes and thought it was very good.

laura  says:

can u get alvin and the chipmunks?

Shelly Parker  says:

This was fantastic so glad i came across this, one other 80's cartoon was Rainbow Brite with all the sprites who were always battling against Murky and Lurky who took all the colours from the world. rainbow Brite and the Colour kids used to go and put them all back again there with the help of their sprites!!!!

Going to an 80's fancy dress Party at the end of November and would really love to be able to get a really good 80s cartoon costume, Has anybody seen any that are reasonably priced??

Angela Harris  says:

Thanks for reminding me about Alvin and the Chipmunks. How could I forget about them?

Shelly,

I'll see if I can find more information about an 80s costume.

Very cool idea! All of these are after my time. I was a "Hong Kong Phooey" "Sigmund and the Sea Monsters" "Land of the Lost" "Captain Kool and the Kongs" "Groovy Ghoulies" 70's generation. But I loved this hub, and passed the link on to some friends I know will get a kick out of it.

BTW, I grew up in Brooklyn just a few blocks from Scot Baio. I think about him this time of year, beause I remember trick or treating at his house every year as a kid. Blast from the past...

Does anyone remember a cartoon with a super hero baby, and a super hero guy made out of ropes? I can remember the cartoon but not the name of it and it is driving me crazy lol

Jessie  says:

HELP!!! My little brother and I were having a discussion about cartoons he and I watched in the 80's. He watched all the typical "car" ones. He mentioned one that was about a type of superhero that was trying to always stop a bad guy who would plant "seeds". The seeds would end up destroying an area and the "fruit" that would grow was a car or bus or semi-truck. He insists it is NOT Captain Planet. Any ideas? Thanks.

It would be nice if the tv stations would bring back the cartoons that we grew up too. I think they are scared to because all of the new ones that came out would slip in the rateings. Then toy manufacturers would have to start producing the old toys again. You know it is a sad wold we live in when people take away the things that mean the most to us.

gasseram  says:

ok someone help me out with this movie,

There was a fluffy ball that was purple and had a tail, and the object of the movie was to collect shapes and go from scene to scene building things with the shapes you collect. You had to build a boat and save a mermaid and then build a key. there was a pirate with a bird on his sholder and you went down into a sub underwater. it wasnt animated but more like felt characters being pulled around on strings.

let me know!!

I'm trying to remember the name of a cartoon I used to watch it the early 90's. It was set on a tropical island which was inhabited by trolls (the toys with the upright hair), and every episode an evil lady in red who was their enemy would come past on a steam ship with two guys who were her henchmen, and try to take over the island. Anyone remember this?

Mana  says:

I remember a cartoon in the late 80s/early 90s where small people with colored hair (looked somewhat like trolls, but not exactly) lived on a tropical Island. I think its the same one you're asking about..with the evil skinny lady on the steam boat and a chubby guy as her henchman. I've been trying to figure out the name of this one for years!!
