Aromatherapy products are not new. They've been around for centuries. Their use goes back as far as ancient China, India, and Egypt. In fact, it's only relatively recently in the history of mankind that organized medicine has replaced natural aromatherapy methods as the primary way that we treat illnesses and diseases.

Aromatherapy is so named because it uses aromas as a therapeutic means to treat illnesses. Aromatherapy products are usually made from aromatic volatile plant materials. In turn, these plant materials are known as essential oils which are the basic building block of aromatherapy.

The entire array of aromatherapy products would be too extensive to list. But it includes products such aromatherapy skin care product, as essential oils, incense, lotions, candles, bath products, and so on. Some of the more popular aromatherapy products follow:

Aromatherapy Oils

Aromatherapy oils are made from plants and are used for a number of purposes. They are used in diluted form to massage, as holistic medicines, as inhalations to clear bronchial tubes and the air-sacs, as bath soaks by adding a few drops to your bath water, and simply as scents to relax the user.

Aromatherapy Diffusers

Aromatherapy diffusers are used to disperse the scents of essential oils into the air. There are many types of diffusers and they all work in different ways. Among them are the so called fan diffusers that use a small fan to disperse the oil into the air.  Candle diffusers are where a lit candle heats a small container containing the essential oil. Electric diffusers work similar to candle diffusers, except they use electricity instead of flame to heat the receptacle. A vapor/mist diffuser involves using a sprayer to disperse the oils into the air. You simply add water and one of your favorite essential oils and turn the diffuser on. You can program many of these to disperse the blends into the air at specified intervals. And lastly, there are diffusers where you simply place the oils into a small receptacle and allow natural evaporation to disperse it into the air.

Aromatherapy Bath Salts

An aromatherapy bath salts are used to revive and stimulate your senses. They are extremely popular. So popular in fact that many companies are making millions of dollars by overcharging. Luckily, if you have the patience and desire, you can save money by making your own custom aromatherapy bath product or bath salt blends. There are few things better, relaxing, and more self indulgent than soaking in a bathtub or spa filled with your favorite aromatherapy scents.

Pot Pourris

Most people are experienced with these types of aromatherapy products. Many people use them as natural deodorizers. Others use them to bring summer scents indoors during the cold autumn and winter months. Basically, pot pourris are dried plants, leaves, and other parts of a plant. An aromatherapy pot pourris is one to which essential oil has been added. If you don't know your favorite scent, you can experiment with various flower and essential oil combinations until you find one or more that you enjoy the smell of. Those who love arts and crafts will tend to love putting together pot pourris also.

Aromatherapy Perfumes

Many people are allergic to chemical perfumes. For them aromatherapy perfumes are probably an excellent substitute as they normally do not cause allergic reactions. Unfortunately, since aromatherapy is such a money maker, there are more than a few synthetic perfumes on the market posing as aromatherapy perfumes. To get the full benefit of aromatherapy perfume, when buying perfumes be sure that you aren't fooled into buying one with synthetic components.

Aromatherapy Herbs

Herbal medicine has been around nearly as long as man has been around. Aromatherapy herbs are used for many ailments including the treatment of diseases including diabetes, arthritis relief, and stress. Herbs are also used as muscle relaxers, blood purifiers, skin disorders, to strengthen the immune system, and hundreds of other uses.

Jasmine Oil

This is one of the most popular essential oils. The smell of jasmine is one of those scents that so intoxicating that jasmine if often used in perfumes and aromatherapy skin care products. It's also one of the reasons that it's so popular in aromatherapy products. Jasmine has the reputation of being good for the skin and hair.
