Today's fashionistas have to stay in the know about the hottest trends from clothes to shoes, bags to dogs and of course, hairstyles. These trends are usually set by their favorite celebrity icons. Following the latest hairstyles is a must for any trendy gal. Whether it's copied completely or customized, the starter look is always present.

For a long time, everyone assumed the bob was a thing of the past, until celebrity super moms like Katie Holmes, Jenny McCarthy and Victoria Beckham were seen flaunting a variety of bob cuts. The fad soon caught on and there were "bobbers" everywhere. There were asymmetrical bobs, blunt bobs with bangs and graduated bobs. Someone getting a bob cut should always remember to customize it to their own unique facial structure and hair type. Bangs can be good with bobs however, only if they work with their face to begin with.

Another hot trend in hair right now, is the long and curly/wavy look. Stars such as Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus, who have beautifully long wavy locks, are used to having their look copied worldwide. Side swept bangs paired with long and curly hair looks amazing on most face shapes. To acquire this wavy appearance, use a small curling iron and randomly do individual pieces of hair, curling in an opposite direction for each piece. Finish off with a light spritz of hair spray.

A ponytail is also something that has sprung up from out of the past. Ponytails are great, because they offer simplicity and versatility. It's quick and easy to have an outstanding look for day or evening. Center-parted or parted to the side, with bangs or without, low on the neck, somewhere in the middle or even high on top, ponytails work well with almost all face shapes. Use a no-frizz balm for that sleek and classy pony.

Other hair trends bouncing around Hollywood are the slightly messy bumped up up-do, long straight-lined sleek and bolder colors. Changing hair color is usually as drastic as a new cut. Starlets tend to change color frequently, which can damage hair if not done properly. When thinking of changing looks, remember to facter in what's hot, face shape, hair's natural texture, damage probability and customization.
