PORK ADOBO FILIPINO RECIPE
So you think I can't cook? You're wrong. I have taste buds and most of the time, I can tell the ingredients and how it's cooked just by tasting the dish. Please come in to my little kitchen. If you see my housemaid following instructions with the chopping, it's because I cook while hubbing. :)
INTRODUCTION:
Adobo is a Spanish word for Marinade. It is famous among Filipino People. I cook my Adobo with a little twist, which lucky for you, I am sharing it among fellow hubbers. I have a secret ingredient to make the meat taste better and tender.
Adobo is great with rice. As you all know, you can take away everything from the Filipino people but RICE is an exception. We love our rice, and if you don't mind, we love it everyday. Three times, please and an extra rice would be nice.
INGREDIENTS:
1 kilo pork belly
1 can of regular coca cola
4 gloves of minced garlic
4 dried bayleaf
1/2 teaspoon peppercorn
1/8 cup soy sauce
1/8 cup cane vinegar
salt to taste
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Slice the pork into cubes. Place it in a casserole and pour 1 can of coca cola. Add your garlic, peppercorn and bayleaf. Cook in medium heat and let it simmer for 30 minutes to 45 minutes. Stir occasionally.
2. Add your soy sauce, vinegar and salt to taste. Let it simmer for another 30 minutes. Stir occasionally. Serve.
NOTE: If you want your Adobo with a little bit of sauce or you prefer it dry, it's okay. I usually leave a little bit of sauce for the little kids. I can heat it again for the next serving and let it dry this time. Both taste good.
My secret ingredient is the Coca Cola. The meat is tender and even the fat itself taste better. Normally, Adobo is simmered with water not coke. However, I know which one taste better.

I use coke when I marinate pork BBQ. For adobo, I cook the pork in vinegar with nothing else. When the pork is tender, I add a little olive oil and let the pork release the rest of the oil that I would be needing for sauteing the rest of the ingredients in. But I think I'd do your recipe. Cris :) i knew you'd come running for the recipe and neglect my worms. Hmmp! please try it and see for yourself. Although, I honestly think your Adobo would taste great too. I will try BBQ with coke as well. Let's see!
What type of vinegar do you guys use?

We use the cane vinegar. It comes from sugarcane. It's readily available in supermarkets here but if I have some of the coconut vinegar from my father's place, it's even better.

I wanna come...Loved the recipe and did copy it...I have heard of using cola but have never ever tried it...I use a salt brine most of the time...Love to make BBQ"d ribs...in the oven...you wouldn't know the difference....Thanks sweetie...G-Ma :O) Hugs & Peace

i never heard using coke in adobo before oz i always use sprite for my adobo, but i try coke today for change hehe:) its interesting...
there are many ways to cook adobo. yours seems interesting, too, because of the coca cola added. hubby is a good cook but his procedures are many.
