Portable DVD Player For Car Tips

There are a number of decisions to be made and features to be considered when purchasing a portable DVD player for your car. Below you'll find several points worth bearing in mind while making your purchase.

Many DVD players support a variety of additional formats, more than one might think. Some support extra video formats in addition to that found on standard DVDs, allowing playback of DIVX format movies as are commonly found on Video CDs. Some support playback of audio and MP3 CDs, which, in the latter case, allows over a hundred songs to be stored on a standard compact disc. Of course, it is most important to ensure that the DVD player you purchase supports DVDs as released in your country. This should only be a concern if importing via an online retailer.

Ensure that the physical construction of the player is of good quality. The player should be able to withstand the jostle of driving over rough terrain. Just as important as the player itself is its attachment to the vehicle. While bouncing about may leave the player's exterior undamaged, an insecure mount might affect any DVDs currently inside the player, causing poor viewing experiences at best or damaging discs at worst.

Battery life and power sources are another consideration. A good portable DVD player for your car should be good for at least 4-6 hours of battery life--enough for two viewings at least. Also, look for a player that can be either powered or charged via your cigarette lighter.

Screen size is also critical. Cars are not the most ideal viewing environment for movies, and a larger screen can go a long way toward compensating for those deficiencies. Screens should be small enough to be portable, but large enough for convenient viewing at odd angles.

Quality sound is also a must-have feature. Since your driver won't be watching the movie, why not help them to enjoy as much of it as they can while keeping their eyes on the road? Try to pick a player with a decent balance of volume and output quality. Also, keep in mind that the sound from your movies will be competing with noise from the road, and you'll likely need more volume than you might expect.

Sometimes added accessories might place one unit ahead of the pack. A remote control is nice for adjusting various aspects of the player when it isn't conveniently within reach, a situation far more common in confined cars. Included headphones allow convenient, non-disruptive viewing of movies outside the car, or in cases where not all passengers wish to be disturbed. Carrying cases prolong the life of your player by protecting it from damage between trips.

A portable car DVD player is an addition guaranteed to liven any road trip or long family vacation. By keeping the above features in mind, your choice of which portable player to buy will certainly be a good one.
