Portable Games vs Console Games

So lately I've been thinking about my recent consoles experiences, compared to my recent portable experiences... and I've come to this conclusion: Portables are better than consoles.

Why? Well, how about I break it down for all of you in a "Pro vs. Con" list?

Consoles

Pros:

* Better graphics

* More complexity, if that's your kind of thing

* controllers are comfortable and virtually unlimited in design possiblities

* Relaxation of sitting in front of a TV

* Sound quality higher

* Multiple players without needing multiple units

Cons:

* Most consoles are fat and ugly, except for the Wii

* Wires, blech

* High prices for accessories

* High prices in general

* Game development takes longer for console games

* Easily broken in most cases

* Complexity of games can also be a bad thing

* Limited to your TV

Handhelds

Pros:

* Uhh... they're portable, duh

* Convenient

* Wide variety of games, most old school game types are preserved on handhelds

* More stuff for your money

* Any included multimedia functions might actually be useful in portable form

* Wireless connection, online or not, is much easier to deal with

* Cartridges mean zero memory cards (sorry, PSP, but DS has got you owned in that department)

* Games developed at a quicker rate, in most cases without sacrificing quality * Limited graphical capabilities mean more 2D games, which is a very good thing

Cons:

* Graphics aren't as nice looking

* Sound is sacrificed to an extent

* Controls can be clunky depending on the handheld's setup (luckily current ones don't have many problems in that area)

* Small screens

* You need more than one unit to play multiplayer locally

So, in comparison, I choose portables as the winner. I've recently decided to buy more portables games, and less console games. I'll still check out a console game if I'm interested in it, but I'm starting to tire of taking risks on $50 Wii games that aren't worth the money or sometimes $60 Xbox 360 games that just aren't worth the money. With my Nintendo DS though, I can finda pure fun game that costs only $30, and if I end up not liking it for some reason then I at least won't have wasted all that much money.

Good job Japan, I finally see why you all like portables so much.
