Possible problems that could arise from going into business with family members either by marriage or blood?
66I would have to say the biggest issue with family businesses or going to work for the in-laws would be the strain that it puts on your relationship between your spouse and you. We will take a look at the two different senerios here.
Working for your family generally has it's ups and downs. If there is more than one sibling working for the family business, then most times there is antomosity that is created in who will run that business once the head of it is ready to retire. Generally, siblings can see this as one parent showing favoritism. The strain here can carry over to your home life as well. If there is a lot of siblings, then you can end with an issue that can tear a family apart.
In the case of working for the in-laws, it can be worse. In some cases you can go through torture because you were never good enough for the daughter or son, whichever may be the case. In some cases, you can get pushed so hard that you take it out on the spouse when you get home. And there are even other cases where you attempt to turn your spouse against their family.
As much as there is room for the negative, there is also room for the positive and the great things that come out of this typ of working relationship.

Thanks Danniboi33! Just as I suspected--I think it's rare esp in regards to working for in-laws to not experience any of those kinds of issues. I suspect it's harder going into business with family because you can never escape the pressure...:)
