How Much Recovery, Post Workout Time Is Needed?
Most skinny guys along with others assume that after a workout that they can get a full nights rest and be ready for the gym the next day. While the rest part is right it takes more than 8 hours of sleep to allow time for the body to rebuild and repair. Now the level of workout must be considered as well, for hard workouts it requires more time to repair.
If you give 100% at your workout you might need 2-3 days of recovery time. For lower levels of weight lifting, where the strain is not so tough it may be possible to work out every other day. Now with that being said and you understanding how important recovery time is the everyday workout is a no-no. Heavy weight workouts are not only tough for your muscles, but also your nervous system meaning that it takes additional time to recover. Better to rest than over train and cause damage or have nothing to show from it.

What About Sleep?
Sleep is one of the most important aspects of the recovery post workout theory. During sleep our body gets the chance to fix these tears and other things inside of our bodies. The fastest recovery happens during sleep, so deductive reasoning allows us to understand that if we are not getting enough sleep our body cannot repair those muscles and tears as quickly as possible. This happens because when our body is in sleep mode, hormones are sent to speed up any repair process. During wake hours our bodies are not in repair or growth mode meaning that sleep is vital to the building of a buff body.
Each person is different and there is not one set answer for how much sleep any one person needs. Most people need about 8 hours of sleep to have a full night of rest, but there are others that need as low as 6 hours of sleep to feel rested. Determining how much sleep you need personally is as simple as knowing how you feel when you wake, if you are still tired after 6 hours, catch a few more Z’s. Also make sure that the rest period is not interrupted. The body can not heal as well if you have wake and sleep habits throughout the rest period.
Some believe that consistency should be sought in the sleep pattern, for example your night’s sleep should be the same every night. Consistency is a positive because the body gets use to a schedule. By maintaining the same schedule of sleep it also allows a routine which is important in the entire recover post workout process.
