The Christmas dinner that your girlfriend has been stressing about is finally over. After laboring in the kitchen for hours, welcoming several guests and showing them out, she now has a lot of unfinished dishes to clean up. And, it's now time for you to start the romance by offering to clean up the dining table for her.
The first rule about leftovers is that you shouldn't leave them lying around for hours. If you do, it will be filled with bacteria and other chemicals that maybe bad for your health. In order to avoid this, you should make sure that the leftovers are stored properly and they are not exposed to the environment too long. You can avoid this by not putting all the food on the table. You can first put them in covered plastic containers and slowly refill the plates as the night progresses.
Now that you have secured the leftovers, here are some interesting dishes that you can cook for her the day after Christmas:

1.) Turkey
With such a big bird on your table, you're bound to have a lot of this after Christmas. With some low fat mayo, vegetables and whole wheat bread, you can have some turkey sandwich the next day or you can just forget the whole wheat bread and make a salad with shreds of turkey meat. These are the usual outcomes of turkey leftovers. But, you can also try making some tacos by following this recipe:
Ingredients:
10 taco shells
2 cups of turkey, diced into cubes
2 medium-sized tomatoes, finely chopped
1 jalapeno, seeded and finely diced
1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
1/3 cup cilantro, finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon cumin
3 cloves of garlic, finely ground
1 teaspoon oregano
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, jack, mozarella)
salt and pepper
Procedure:
1.) Heat the oil in a pan and add the garlic.
2.) When the garlic has a golden brown color, add the onion, cilantro, cumin, oregano and some salt.
3.) Now add the turkey and tomatoes into the mixture.
4.) Take the pan out of the fire and start filling up your taco shells with this delicous mix.
5.) Add the cheese.
2.) Ham
Just like turkey, you can put slices of lefover ham between two slices of whole wheat bread in order to make a sandwich. You can also put it on a salad. Or, you can use it as a topping for your pizza. But, if you want to try something different, you can make this omelette for breakfast the next day:
Ingredients:
1/4 cup bellpeppers, finely chopped
1 cup sliced ham
1/2 cup potatoes, diced
1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
3 cloves of garlic
3 whole eggs or four egg whites
2 tablespoons of olive oil
salt and pepper
Procedure:
1.) Heat the oil in a pan and throw in the garlic.
2.) When the garlic has become golden brown, put the onion, ham and potatoes into the frying pan.
3.) Throw in the sliced bellpeppers when the potatoes have become slightly brown.
4.) Now, add the eggs and start mixing the ingredients together. Add some salt and pepper.
3.) Candy Canes
Do you know what would go well with you buttered toast? A cup of peppermint chocolate. All you need to do is combine 2 of your peppermint candy canes with a saucepan filled with hot coco. Of course, because these candy canes already have a lot of sugar then there is no more need to add some. Just pour yourself a mugful of the bittersweet and minty treat.
Sometimes, preparing a romantic meal doesn't really mean that you should make something complicated. Simple things that are done at the right time can be more romantic and memorable than any gourmet dish.

I can't believe it has never occurred to me to make an omelet with leftover ham! I always cook ham for the holidays as a tradition. The candy cane with cocoa sounds yummy too and one I will try! Thanks for the tips.
