Fun Free Soccer Drills

Soccer practice should be fun. One of the best ways to keep soccer fun during practice is to challenge the players by using soccer drills that involve all the players and develop their skills.

A good goal to have is to try and minimize the use of lining up or standing around and try to maximize involvement and activity of all players. Soccer drills should emphisise teamwork and ball touches.

Soccer Drill for Dribbling

For young soccer players one of the best soccer drills for teaching ball controll, turning with the ball and acceleration is to use the Dribble around a square drill.

Start by making a 12 foot square. Have the players line up on all 4 sides of the square. Direct the players to dribble across the square and stop on the other side. Tell your players to contoll the ball close to their feet with their head up. Once they reach the other side have the turn around and dribble to where they started. This drill is great at teaching young soccer players how to dribble in traffic.

Soccer Drill For Coaching Turning With The Ball

There are a variety of ways soccer players can turn with the soccer ball. Have the player turn with the ball or change directions the way they are most comfortable with. As with the above soccer drill have the players line up on all four sides of the square. Direct each player to go to the other side of the square and return to where they started. Each time they return is worth one point. Decide on what number the game will go to, the first player to cross the square and return "X" amount of times wins.

Soccer Drill For Creating Quickness While Dribbling

Set up cones about 20 feet apart. Form teams of 2 players on each team. Use one cone as the starting cone and the other cone as the turnabout cone. Start this soccer drill by having the first player dribble to the cone go around it. The player that is dribbling can pass the the teammate that is still at the other cone. Each successfull pass is considered one point.

Soccer Drill Tag Your It

Start with a square about 15' x 15'. Have all players, except one. start with a ball. Players start to dribble in side the square while trying to avoid losing their ball to the player that is "it."

Soccer Drill keep away
