Three Weeks Overdue and Getting Scared...

We were expecting our 3rd child by the end of February, 1981.March came. Each Sunday at church, people were asking me what I was doing there. Good question. It had been four years since the last pregnancy which was a bit more difficult than the first. An uneasy feeling came over me that this was not going to be very easy at all. All of my doctors (and I had five in the group) were reluctant to induce labor, wanting nature to take it's course.

Delivery Day

On March 28th, labor started. Laying on the delivery table, I heard the doctors say,"This should have been a C-section." They used forceps and and when it was all done, my poor baby had blood rings around the iris of both eyes and his collarbone was fractured.

My Nightmare

My nightmare was just beginning. Profuse bleeding made me call our Pastor's wife to tell her they couldn't stop the bleeding. She called all the women in our churches' prayer group and they called on God to staunch the flow... In the meantime, I had flatlined and lost a total of 10 pints of blood, (there's only 12 in your whole body), but felt such peace in my soul. Even though I couldn't communicate with anybody, I could hear them talking and moving about. It was as if I were in my own little world, black and peaceful.

God Answered Prayer

The bleeding had stopped. Now you ask, "How do you know it was God?" I went into that hospital knowing I could live or die and I was ready for either. The surgeon couldn't find any tissue to sew, it all fell apart in his hands, so all they could do was pack me. When man can do no more, God takes over and I give Him the glory!

We Stayed 8 Days in the Hospital

8 lbs 10 oz.was just to big for me. We tried nursing, but with us both being hurt so bad, we had to give it up.His right arm stayed pinned to his shirt for several days due to the fractured collarbone.

I invite Jesus to become the Lord of that baby life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day foward. Amen
