It helps to hear the stories and symptoms of other women to remind you that you are not the first person to go through this exciting rollercoaster.

Many of these articles and message boards use a shorthand. Here is a glossary of some of the more common abbreviations used to talk about conception and pregnancy:

2WW = 2-Week Wait

AF (Aunt Flo) - Menstruation

AHI = At-home Insemination

AI = Artificial Insemination

ART = Assisted Reproductive Technology

BBT = Basal Body Temperature

BCP = Birth Control Pills

BD = Baby Dance (sex)

BFN = Big Fat Negative (on a pregnancy test)

BFP = Big Fat Positive (on a pregnancy test)

CD = Cycle Day

CF = Cervical Fluid

CM = Cervical Mucus

CP = Cervical Position

DH = Dear (or Darling) Husband

DP = Darling Partner

DD = Darling Daughter

DS = Darling Son

D&C = Dilation & Curettage

DPO = Days Post-Ovulation

EDD = Estimated Due Date

EPT = Early Pregnancy Test

ET = Embryo Transfer

EW, EWCM = Eggwhite Cervical Mucus

FET = Frozen Embryo Transfer

FP = Follicular Phase

FSH = Follicle Stimulating Hormone

HPT = Home Pregnancy Tests

HSG = Hysterosalpingogram

ICI = Intra-cervical Insemination

ICSI = Intra-cytoplasmic Sperm Injection

IF = Infertility

ITI = Intra-tubal Insemination

IUI = Intra-uterine Insemination

IVF = In Vitro Fertilization

LMP = Last Menstrual Period (start date)

LO = Love Olympics (sex)

LP = Luteal Phase

LPD = Luteal Phase Defect

LSP = Low Sperm Count

MC or M/C = Miscarriage

MF = Male Factor

MIFT = Micro Injection Fallopian Transfer

O or OV = Ovulation

OB = Obstetrician

OB/GYN = Obstetrician/Gynecologist

OC = Oral Contraceptives

OD = Ovulatory Dysfunction

OPK = Ovulation Predictor Kit

PCO = Polycystic Ovaries

PCOD = Polycystic Ovary Disease

PCOS = Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

PG = Pregnant

PID = Pelvic Inflammatory Disease

PMS = Pre-menstrual Syndrome

RE = Reproductive Endocrinologist

TTC = Trying to Conceive

TWW = Two week wait (Refers to the wait after O for your AF!)

US or u/s = Ultrasound

ZIFT = Zygote Intra-fallopian Transfer
