I knew when I sat down to write this review that the results of the review would not be very high, given the history of recalls and the number of deaths and illnesses associated with feeding Eukanuba Cat food. I had no idea the list of cat food ingredients for Eukanuba Lamb and Rice would be so poor.

Eukanuba Lamb and Rice has decided to use chicken by-product meal in the ingredients. Let me explain what "chicken by-product meal" means. By-Product is anything "chicken" which is not considered fit for human consumption. Eukanuba can not Add feathers but they can use the existing feathers, manure, and what ever else may fall to the floor after processing chickens. Eukanuba felt like there wasn't enough unfit chicken stuff included in their Lamb and Rice formula so they made the by-products into a "meal". "eal means they removed the water and concentrated the amount of dry feathers, manure, and floor sweepings. Now, we have a heavy duty dose of chicken trash.

Oh, but that's not all Eukanuba did. Eukanuba included corn grits in the ingredients used for the lamb and rice. Corn, as we should be told, causes hot spots, hair loss, fever, ear aches, ear infections, turmors, warts, moles, abnormal nail growth, obesity, bloat, dry and itchy skin, blindness, deafness, inflamed kidneys, inflamed liver, arthritis, heart conditions, and early death.

I like what Eukanuba Lamb and Rice formula did with the name of the cat food. Eukanuba did not use a healthy rice for those poor kitties eating this mess. Eukanuba used the end of a beer run from a beer manufacturer to get the ingredients in the "Rice" potion. End of the beer run ingredients are brewer's rice and brewer's dried yeast.

Some more bad ingredients in this formula of Eukanuba include dried beet pulp, a cheap filler with no health value for a cat. Salt, like a cat needs that added to his food. Natural Flavor. Natural flavor of what? Most often "natural flavor" is obtained by adding the manure from which ever animal the company wishes to flavor the formula. In this case I'm guessing Eukanuba has used lamb and chicken poop?

If that is not enough for you Eukanuba realized cats weren't going to eat this bag of junk so they had to flavor the ingredients with chicken fat. Chicken fat is what gives the smell to the mix. Now, this chicken fat is not needed by the cat for nutrients the fat is there only to entice the cat to eat the mix. Where did Eukanuba get the chicken fat? Resturant grease? More floor sweepings from a rendering plant?

Eukanuba Lamb and Rice Formula for cats uses substandard ingredients. I would not suggest feeding this to your cat. I would not buy for this bag of trash to feed my cat. - Susan Peters
