Famous Premonitions
- Adolph Hitler had a dream during WWI that caused him to jump out of his trench just moments before a shell stuck and blew up his trench killing everyone.
Just 10 days before his assassination, Abraham Lincoln had a dream of people crying coming from the East Wing of the Whitehouse. When he investigated he was told by soldiers on guard that they weeping for the president who had been assassinated. Days later his body was held in state in the East wing so people could pay respect.
Mark Twain predicted that Halley's Comet would be seen on the day of his death, just as it was when he was born. Twain died on Halley's 1910 appearance on May 18. Mark Twain also had a dream where he saw his brother in a casket. Less than a week later, his brother was killed in an explosion on a boat. Upon arriving at the town where it took place, he saw his brother laid out in a casket just like in his dream.
Nostradamus is also believed to have predicted his own death and the date in which his tomb would be opened
- Julius Caesar's wife Calpurnia had a dream the night before he died that he would be stabbed by a friend, and she warned him not to go.
- Ian Stevenson, a psychiatrist interested in the paranormal, recorded more than 19 incidents of premonitions within the two weeks before the Titanic sailed

My Personal Experiences with Premonitions and Intuition
I don't recall any personal experiences with premonitions, although I have an uncle that has experienced a number of premonitions that include the birth of my two children and how much they looked alike, the death of my grandmother (his mother), and the marriage of my cousin and her husband.
My experiences have been with intuition.
One of the first experiences that I can still recall quite vividly was when I was about twelve or thirteen years old. My father was a garage sale nut. As a pre-teen/early teenager, it no longer excited me like it did when I was smaller. On this particular day, I remember sitting in the backseat of the family car while my parents rummaged through boxes of stuff in someones crowded garage. As I turned to look at them, a song popped into my head. The song is "Crystal Blue Persuasion" by Tommy James and The Shondells. I found my self staring at a particular box about 50 feet away and knowing that record was in that box. I got out of the car, walked straight to the box and went straight to the record. I bought it and I own it to this day.
In the mid-80s, I seemed to have a number of experiences of intuition.
At the time I was working in a position where I handled a lot of money on a daily basis. During peak times, I sometimes handled a million dollars in one day. With constant contact with money, you tend to get pretty good at knowing how many bills you have in your hand by how they feel. I could grasp a stack of twenty dollar bills and tell you how many were there. You just got a feel for things. I don't consider that intuition, just getting really familiar with your work.
This is always difficult to explain. I used to be able to grasp a stack of customer checks and tell you if one in the stack was unsigned without looking at any of them. I just knew. Without fail, if I had that feeling, there would be one with no signature. Now, one could assume there might always be one unsigned check in a bunch, but this wasn't like that. I always knew when there was and when I didn't have that feeling and checked them anyway, there would never be one unsigned.
During this same time-frame, I experienced a similar thing at home. Due to the rural area in which we live, we are required to have a post office box. I found that when I went to get the mail out of my box, I could always tell, just by touching the stack of mail, if one of the envelopes was not addressed to me. I learned to trust this, and every single time I had that feeling, one of the envelopes would be addressed to someone else. I never found an envelope that wasn't addressed to me without having that feeling first.
I know you're probably thinking this is no big deal, but it's the degree of accuracy that always surprised me. I always marveled at how quickly the feeling came and how instinctive it was. I didn't question it. It was feeling of certainty. Afterwards, I always asked myself how I could know that. I had no way of knowing it, yet I did.
Nowadays I seem to have lost touch with this ability. I'm sure it's there. In fact, I'm fairly certain we all possess it. I guess I've just gotten too busy to relax enough to feel it or sense it. I think I'll work on that.

That's the thing about what I experience. It's quite a natural feeling, it's not scary or hair raising, but then again I don't experience premonitions. Premonitions would probably do that to me.
Yes , i totally agree that we all have a sense of intuition, but we sometimes lose contact with it. I can remember times in my life when it was very strong. . . and other times when it has been lost in everyday details, unnecessary thoughts, worris, doubts, and maybe even commercials. Too much mental debris blocks the natural intuition.
Gotta go do some housecleaning.
That's it exactly, Rochelle. I do miss it. I know it's still there, I definitely need to do some housecleaning!
Fascinating hub, KCC...especially your experiences, wow! I love this type of subject!
I've had only one major premonition that stands out in my mind...years ago, my husband was working out of state, and we talked every night on the phone for hours. One morning I was doing the usual routine with my kids, when I started having this overwhelming feeling about stepping on a nail--it was so strange, but I couldn't shake the feeling all day long.
When Tom(my husband) called that evening, I couldn't wait to tell him about this odd experience, but before I had the chance, he started talking about his day, and(you probably already have guessed it) how he stepped on a pile of lumber and ran a nail through his foot! I was speechless with shock--I had never had anything like that happen before...it was definitely hair-raising to me, lol...
Thanks for the great hub!
I have pretty good intuition and rely on it a lot. But I've only had one premonition is my life and it came true. I was driving down a wide street with many side streets leading off of it. At one point I sensed a car coming out of one of the side streets, to the right of me, heading straight for me. I even saw the car. But I soon realized there was no car.
I just kept driving and a few blocks later a real car (looking just like the one in my premonition) came out of a side street to the right of me, headed right for me and skidded sideways just in time to avoid hitting me. Scary huh?
Really enjoyed your hub. Thanks
Ok, you two! TamCor and Alekhouse....those are hair raising things! But, isn't it cool? I'm sure no one wants to foresee bad things, but don't you miss doing that more often? I guess if we did it more often it wouldn't seem as special. Who knows? I find it fascinating.
lol KCC--I think it's kinda cool, too, haha. Sometimes I wish I could experience it more often--I know what you mean!
We did meet a man once at a VA hospital, where we were visiting my father-in-law who had just had surgery...this man was a patient, too, but just happened to be in the waiting room with us.
We were talking to him, when he looked at Tom and told him he needed to keep an eye out on his foot...we had no idea what he was talking about. But a few weeks later, Tom came down with a nasty staph infection in his foot, and had to have emergency surgery--and another follow up surgery a couple of weeks later. He came very close to losing his foot, and was laid up for weeks because of it.
I've never doubted these types of things since then!
What a trippy hub...I understand alot more about this than I would like to admit. =)
That is spooky, but I love it!
I don't doubt them either!
Do tell, Pachuca! Bet you have loads of stories to tell!
I think I've become more intuitive over the years. Like you said KCC, we all have the ability...we just need to let it happen without questioning it too much.
That's awesome Feline Prophet!
Maybe it occurs more in my daily life than I give it credit for, but I miss what I had. I have a link that included that I'm going to look into more myself. I am going to work on recapturing more of that again. Thanks for stopping by Feline Prophet!
yeah KCC....I do have alot of stories to tell. I have cheated death a few times based on Intuition and I have had feelings of intuition or "gut instinct" that I have always listened to....and I always seem to get out just in time. But sometimes I wasn't able to listen to my intuition because I was a kid and had to obey my parents.
Perfect example...I walked to my mom's shoppe after school back in 7th grade. and I went next door to get some food at the taco shop. It made me sick ( violently ill) and when we were driving home I needed a 7 up for my stomach...I told my mom as we approached the store that I wanted to go somewhere else I had a bad feeling. Ofcourse she said, "Get in there and get your 7 up"....so I went in. As I strolled down the aisle to the refrigerated sodas and noticed the man behind the counter staring at me very weird. Then when I came back it was another man there. I just put my soda on the counter to purchase it and he told me to take it and leave....I thought he was joking and put my money on the counter...he said "NO, take it and go now!" so I walked out and did not look back...when I got in the car I told her that something wasn't right. She said it sounded strange but that was the end of it....
The next day I found out that the place was robbed that night when I came in......
Yowza! That is very spooky, Pachuca! I'm glad you've realized that it is definitely something to heed. Your instincts are good (somehow reminds me of "the force is strong in this one! LOL).
Thanks for adding your story to this hub!
No problemo chica! Thanks for letting me share it....
"funny you are....funny you are!" ( yoda) lol
Yoda's such a cutie! I should do a hub on him. LOL
you should....I think he is a cutie too~
Howdo, KCC -- I'm here to spoil the fun :-) I wouldn't call Twain's "forethought" a premonition, just a good, educated guess, the same as Caesar's wife -- they were guestimating with common knowledge. That's how I see it anyway :-) As for intuition, hmm, I think we all have it all right, and I think we're better at it the more we pay attention to the environment, even in a subconscious manner. Did I sound like a total party popper? Laugh! Hope you forgive me for that! And big kudos for an interesting hub!
I agree that that can sometimes be the case, Elena! Just like I said about how good I got with knowing how many bills I was holding in my hand. It wasn't psychic powers, it was pure familiarity with the feel of money. So, I do agree that sometimes we can conclude things just by being observant. Thanks for stopping by, Elena!
Rationally, I try to tell myself that Elena is correct, but I've had too many examples of stuff I couldn't have known at specific times come true, just as I knew they would. I've given up trying to explain it, and just enjoy it now.
I agree, Teresa. There is no way I could have known, or even suspected, that that box at that garage sale contained records, much less a specific record. This was in the mid-70s as well. The record came out in 1969. There is no way to explain that. Thanks for stopping by!
Its all very spooky. We all have that sixth sense in some degree or another I think
I'd definitely work on that. I call it my gut. It's always right. Always always always. The stupid thing is, I don't always listen to it. But it's there for the taking. I have premonitions too, but not like the constant barage of intuition.
Enjoyed your story much! And the video was a o kay by me. Relaxing and appropriate. Thanks KCC.
Thanks for stopping by Ethel! I agree.
Thanks Frieda! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. That's the song I bought at that garage sale.
I just love hubs like this. I too have moments of knowledge of something right before it happens. Like when the phone rings I know who it is before checking the caller id. Most of the time, I would say 90%, I am correct. Wish I knew the lottery numbers before hand. LOL. Thanks for the great hub.
Knowing the lottery numbers beforehand would certainly be a handy thing! Glad you enjoyed it Tesa.
Awesome article. I enjoyed reading it all the way to the bottom and took the poll. For me both intuition and premonition are a part of my daily life. I say it annoys me but if it were gone I would be lost because I have become used to just knowing. I think everyone has these experiences it's just a matter of recognition. I appreciate your open style of writing.
Thanks emohealter! I'm glad you enjoyed it! It must be awesome to experience both so regularly! You're right, you'd probably be lost without them! Thanks for stopping by.
thanks for share. Great hub. I like it
Good stuff! Tommy James is from the same county from which I hail (Berrien County, Michigan). This Hub is interesting reading. I am a believer in intuition surely, and premonition, probably.
Thanks Prasetio30! Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks James! How interesting to be from the same area as Tommy James. I love the video I found. It's really a great video of a live performance. I especially like it when artists are able to perform their songs very close to the quality of the orginals that we've memerized every nuance of, yet you can still tell that it's live. I think they accomplished that in this particular video. I take it from your comments that you've probably experienced intuition, but probably haven't had a premonition.
Thanks for stopping by!
After reading this, I feel like I had some sort of psychic powers with my dreams! This sure makes me feel better. I hope that the good ones come true and the bad ones to back off!
Glad I could help, Maynmong! I think that would be the hardest part, if you're seeing bad things. I wouldn't like that ability. I'm like you, show me the good stuff!
Thanks for stopping by!
one of my favorite subjects, KCC. Awesome. Well done with this one as well.
Thank you, AIDY! Any stories to share on the subject? Do tell! Or write a hub about them!
I have lots of intuition. Usually many times a day. I used to have premonitions a lot, but only 80% came true. There was a feeling to them. After not getting a premonition about the most horrible thing that ever happened to me, I refuse to listen to them. Kinda shut it off for the most part. I am kind of surprised, I thought more people on here would have had more of that sort of stuff. Great hub KCC. I would love a Yoda Hub. :)
Thanks Paper Moon! If I understood you correctly, you're unhappy that you didn't have a premonition of the most horrible event in your life? Are you saying you would have wanted the warning so that you could have avoided it? I do find the topic very fascinating. I haven't had those types of experiences that I could head off. I might have to work on that Yoda hub.
I get little pictures kinda behind my eyeballs--(woo woo!) Seriously, it's like a little movie pops up and its always spontaneous. The most memorable one was in my 30s. I was thinking of going back to school and I got this flash of a Renaissance painting of a woman that was mostly oranges, reds, and browns. I didn't think much of it (I'd say about 70% of these flashes make no immediate sense), and then when the mail came, there was a postcard from my undergraduate mentor--with that painting as the front of the card. I hadn't heard from him in 15 years.
I have other examples, but I don't want to sound any crazier than I already am, so enough. But I do think people information in ways that don't yet make sense but eventually will. Cool hub, thanks!
Thanks for sharing pgrundy! I don't think you're crazy at all! In fact, while reading your comment, I had a spark of a memory. I've done something similar to that where I had a flash of some image only to see it later in the day and immediately recognize it. I hadn't had that happen in a while. Thanks for stopping by. Maybe someday when you're looking for something to write about you'll share a few more in a hub. :)
Many time when I could see these things, they played like video in my head. I always likened it to the difference between American and British tv. British TV always seemed... clearer. I guess now it would be like high definition to old VCR.
Yes KCC, you got it right. Even though I could not have headed this one off, I could have had some notion to prepare me emotionally. I guess I was a little spoiled by the frequency of mine. But I was so pissed it did me no good when I really needed it. Many of the times it was for helping others though, or guiding me to where I needed to be in life. Many were trivial (or seemed so).
Although the strongest intuition ( ? ) lasted 5 months and lead me to my wife. It was such a pulling feeling. (Suprisingly, she made a wish for someone like me five months before we met)
I got you, Paper Moon. Although, I understand what you're saying in that you would have liked to have had some warning so that you could be emotionally prepared, I imagine having to experience whatever you experienced probably emotionally prepared you for something else! We rarely see the bigger picture and the way things are so entertwined until after the fact. I'd say your wife is quite a deliberate creator and you were quite receptive.
Excellent informative Hub KCC!
Thank you A.M. Gwynn!
These types of things are part of my daily life. The more attention you give it -the stronger it is.
A few years ago my work required us to put hundreds of applications in number order sequence,. I could go to a stack and put my hand on exactly the spot where the required app was. I've always been fascinated with numbers. I still remember the glee I felt, when I could do it several times in a row.
Secondly, you can put me in the midst of several people and I can sense which ones have a connection with a police dept, or have an ulterior motive, without even speaking to them. I know when someone is an authority figure, even just passing them on the street.
Almost forgot-excellent article!
Thanks, Galleryofgrace! I have that strong numerical attraction as well. Sounds like you need to be working for an attorney assisting with the juror selection! I find that very interesting!
Thanks for the encouragement. I was afraid I might be sought out by criminals to identify authority figures. :)
I have even asked people what their connection was to verify my feelings. One person said his father was an officer of the law. So the connection is not just with that person but with their environment. It's all so interesting.
Very cool.....some might say (if they believe in that sort of thing) that perhaps you were either a criminal or a judge in some former life...LOL I do find it VERY fascinating.
I been having nightmares lately, so don't get your hopes up!
Oh no, Mayhmong! I rarely have nightmores, thank goodness!
You're putting them out too fast for me to keep up!!
I think all parents have a sense of intution. Whether they listen to it or not is a whole 'nother story. I also believe children have a God-given ability to decipher 'good' people from 'bad'. Encouraging them to listen to that 'gut feeling' is alot better than forcing them to be polite no matter what.
Now, back to the bank business. That's amazing that you could do all of that. I'm trying hard to even remember what a 20 dollar bill looks like......
I agree LM...I think parents, probably more so moms, have a sense of intuition when it comes to their kids, but I think that's primarily due to acute familiarity and paying attention. I do think kids have a good sense of 'good' and 'bad' people, but that could also be because they are less tainted with our biases. Kids are very intuitive creatures.
Don't remember a $20, huh? Only keeping 50s and 100s on you these days, huh? LOL
Uh...no. Don't know that I've ever seen a 50. :-) I'm more of a nickle and dime girl myself. I have kids, you know.
LOL....then you're definitely fibbing about having nickels and dimes, I know your kids are bound to have gotten all of them too! My daughter has even asked me for some of my rolls of pennies! She will stop at nothing! Just wait until your oldest is driving! "Mom, I need more gas" is almost a daily thing seems like. At least she got a job! We thought she'd get her first check last Friday, but nope, it's this Friday.
Oh, I'm the one who does the laundry. That's the only way I ever see them. Sometimes I'll get really lucky and find a quarter that's been freshly laundered. That's a very special day. I may actually go down to the hardware store and buy a giant ball of bubblegum.
Her first check, huh? That's always exciting. My husband infomed my oldest that at 14 (two short years away!!) she can get her motorcycle license and drive the scooter. Great. Now I'm the bad cop.
Yikes, scooter?! I'm glad I didn't have that one to contend with!
Oh yeah. She rides it around at my parents and our little neighborhood all the time. It's only a 150, so it only gets up to 50-55 tops, but still!! He's crazy if he thinks I'm going to let her loose on the streets with that thing!
OMG, you do realize 50-55 is fast, right?
KCC...great hub....you inspired my lastest hub about my Great Grandmother. Thanks! :)
Thanks, Tom! I'll have to head over there and read it! Glad I could inspire it!
Um, yeah. You remember I was only going 25 when I hit the pavement, right?
I want to read Tom's hub, too! I'll meet you over there!
That's right, LM! And your husband's ok with her going twice as fast at 14 yrs old? Yikes! I cringe!
Loved Tom's hub on his grandmother!
See? So I'm not just an over-protective parent! 14 is way too young to be driving those things!
And yes, Tom's hub was great. He's got quite a family!
Yes, for whatever it's worth, LM, I do think any child is too young at 14 to ride anything that goes that fast on city streets.
I'll print this off and slip it under her door when she's pouting because "Mom is SO mean!!"
You don't know anything about those episodes, do you, KCC?
LOL....I get told I'm a mean mama at least a dozen times a day I think! She loves me though! She'll thank me one day. I've already seen evidence of 'getting through to her' when she relates stories to me about some of her friends' parents. She is appalled at some of the things they let their kids do and has even commented that if she was a parent SHE would never allow that. Makes my heart sing to hear that.
Loved this! I use to have premonitions all the time about seeing certain people. They always came true.
Over the years I have come to trust my feeling of misgiving around certain males. Every single one that I have had this misgiving about has turned out to be a child molester.
Glad you enjoyed it Ivorwen! Child molesters, huh? Sounds like you'd make a good one to work for an attorney as well!
Awesome article.
I have recently been involved in a lot of intuitive situations and had a very vivid premonition the other day about an unexpected person meeting me in an unexpected place, and the next day my friend from a totally different city was at my school!
Thanks Amy! What a great story! Thanks for sharing! It's really cool when that happens!
