Many of us suffer from sleep problems with the severity ranging from just not getting enough sleep, to not being able to sleep night after night.  We all need sleep, it is one of the most important parts of our daily routine.  Sleep allows our bodies to process the days events and reset our systems ready for the next day, without sleep we struggle to deal with day to day life.  Insomnia affects many people throughout the course of life, with most people finding it is a passing phase with regular sleep patterns returning after a matter of days. For some this is not the case, with night after night spent lying awake waiting for sleep to finally come.  It is in cases like these that many turn to prescription sleep aids.

There are many different sleep aids available online, ranging from relaxation CD's to hypnotic DVD's to herbal sleeping tablets.  There are many different techniques you can try to help you sleep before you go to your GP for help.  A lot of people swear by pre-bed relaxation exercises, or CD's that send you into a semi-trance like state to help you get off to sleep.  People suffering from serious insomnia will often feel desparate and turn to anything that may offer them a way out of the vicious circle they find themselves trapped in.  Once you find you are having trouble sleeping, the very thought of getting into bed can start to stress you out to the extent that by the time you are actually in bed you are so wound up about whether you are going to be able to go to sleep or not, no matter how tired you are sleep is almost impossible as your mind is racing and keeping you awake.

In situations like this, sometimes the only option is to seek professional medical help to cure your insomnia. Your GP will be able to asses the severity of your insomnia and give you prescription sleep aids to help you overcome your insomnia and get a good nights sleep.
