Presented at Imola the new Fiat 500 electric
69Imola (Bologna) April 3th
The Fiat 500 electric is borne, it's a success of the Micro-Vett, a Imola's company that married technological innovation and environmental protection. It will be possible to see it on the street only towards the end of the year.It will be chose the site for the productions, which could be in Poland for Europe and people from Fiat hope to do one site in the US if the agree with Chrysler will going out. It will be possible to rent it for a period of three years at a the cost of 800 euros per month (full service), while the burden on the consumption amount' to 1.5 euro per 100 km. For the final purchase it's assumed about 35,000 euros.
Who is Micro-Vett
Gaetano Di Gioia, 62 years, from Imola, he was a co-chairman of the Cooperative League of Imola, he founded the Micro-Vett in 1987. He is convinced that the electric traction can integrate the traditional, especially for certain segments of the automotive. The partnership with Piaggio, before, with Iveco and Fiat then, make the take off his idea: now days Micro-Vett realizes 700 units annually of electic and bimodal vehicles of the three brands in Italy, with a fleet of over 5,000 vehicles
An interview with Mr. Di Gioia
The electrical mobility seemed dead and defunct. Now there is a great awakening. How does see the situation in the future someone who has always believed nell'elettric?
"The traction of the car of the future I can already predict that it will be only electricity. Pure or combined with renewable sources such as hydrogen if it will be produced at the right cost. Let me explain. As you know hydrogen is not nature but must be created, if you can produce hydrogen with batteries and solar power, then it's all right. If we still need oil to produce the hydrogen it's the end of the goals. For the future? We firmly believe on it, so much that I asked my son to help me in the management. "
What has caused this reversal of policy after the American industry had decreed the end of the electric at the salon of Detroit five years ago?
"The revolution for mobility power came from the new lithium batteries
that cost much more less than the one with lead, but allow far greater autonomy and a rapid
refill. Plus they do not haveĀ the memory effect. We can say that, we experts of ecological mobility, we must
thank mobile phones. The batteries of the cars use mobile
phone technology. "
But we are far from the possibility of making a full as for diesel, gasoline, methane or LPG. Today it takes hours and hours to recharge a vehicle, like your Fiat 500.
"Just because we are in close contact with manufacturers of lithium batteries, I can say that within a few years we can live the revolution of electric mobility. They're coming, it will take another two or three years, batteries that recharge in six minutes. Then at that point you're done. "
Can you be more clear on how can be organized the supply when it will be required only 6 minutes for an autonomy of up to 200 km?
"Large retailers will fit out for this. It's clear that to recharge lithium batteries it takes an equipment with much voltage. What can not be done at home. Besides the usual distributors of diesel and petrol, in cities and in Highway, you will have the opportunity to recharge the lithium batteries. There is no need be created as a dedicated pipeline for hydrogen, which can not be conveyed in ordinary pipes. Just a cabin with many Kw available to recharge the battery pack " .
