President Obama's 2009 Economic Stimulus Plan
55Employment opportunities and infrastructure. That is what this new economic stimulus plan, which is estimated to be $838 billion is gearing towards.
In early January, the breakdown of the plan was as follows:
- To increase employment opportunity nationwide and provide approximately 80% of new jobs in the private sector.
- To provide tax cuts and credits for individuals and businesses.
- To provide infrastructure nationwide for education systems, transportation, healthcare, and many others.
Recently, President Obama details the stimulus plan, which he states will extend unemployment insurance, healthcare, and other assistance for workers and families who have lost their jobs in this recession. Healthcare insurance will be kept for families who have lost their jobs so that they do not have to pay into Cobra, while they are looking for new jobs. An additional $100 per month will be provided among other assistance to help the families that are really struggling through these difficult times.
According to the President himself, “if you don’t have money, you can’t spend it. If you don’t spend money, our economy continues to decline. “
Please see the President’s statements on the details of the stimulus plan.

Today, the U.S. Senate, proves their determination towards a healthier U.S. economy by setting up a vote towards the $838 billion stimulus package. The votes were 61-36 with a skeptical group of Republicans, who feel that the plan will not boost the economy, but in turn may only cause added debt to the U.S. pocket. The vote is scheduled to be finalized on Tuesday.

Being of the centrist mentalityI have and an avowed skeptic I do have some reservations about the package ,mainly that 2 losers like Nancy Pelosi and Ted Stevens have any say on the matter whatsoever. I hae read some of the details of the package and I will be the first to say there are complexities In the US economy that are far beyond my comprehension . However I say doing something Is better then doing ! And we share In some of the responsibility for the problems we have by alot of Americans living far beyond their means .
Government take over of everything. Welcome to hope and change.
Madison,
Thank you! Yes, I have been extremely busy with my business and so took my focus off of some of the nice things I like to do. But I'm back!
In regards to your comment, "I have the perfect solution; why don't they just stop talking about giving us a tax break here and there and just let us keep what is actually OUR OWN money to start with," I STRONGLY agree. I am all for improving the state of the economy and doing what it takes to help turn it around, but I just have a feeling that the amount of taxes I will be paying will increase while others who don't pay taxes (or much of it), are the only ones who will be benefiting.

In regards to your comment, "I say doing something Is better then doing ! And we share In some of the responsibility for the problems we have by alot of Americans living far beyond their means," you are also right. I mean, we can't blame everything on the government, because many of us are just as responsible for this economic chaos.
How about giving a million dollars each to 305 million Americans. That would help everyone. Drop the stimalus package so it won't cost Americans $838 billion. Not my idea saw it someplace but I think it's a good idea it will sure get this economy going everyone will be spending. Stop bailing out everyone else and bail out Americans that have lost their jobs or just having a hard time making it. If you have a million dollars already you will still get a million because you are an American. After all it is our money. No one should say "oh no it can't be done because it can be done" it's just that no such thing will ever be done for us. To bad. Then go from there and figure out what else America needs.
It may add up to 305 trillion but it would be ours and by the time the goverment gets done it's going to add up to that much with give aways to banks or who ever else they come up with to give money to. It's our turn!

Hey, haven't seen you in awhile! welcome back.
I just hope they get the dang pork out of the stupid package and get on with something that actually WILL work toward stimulating the economy!

Those who are out of work are certainly not spending, and the rest of us feel guilty to buy stuff becaus there are people suffering out there right now.
