Prism Dog Food Review

If you are going to take the responsibility of caring for a dog who is relying on you and totally dependent on the decisions you make then you have an obligation to give them the highest quality of life as possible. You can give your dog a good and long life by feeding them good quality food. The only way to find out about which foods are high quality is to read as many dog food reviews as you can.

Once you read a couple dog food reviews you can see how to quickly tell the quality. The first thing you should do when you are looking at the ingredients of a prospective dog food or one that you might already be feeding your pet you should take a close look at the top five ingredients. These are at the top because they have the most weight out of all the ingredients.

I am going to pick a random Prism dog food to review. I've gone with the Prism Canine Maintenance formula for review. The top five ingredients are as follows:

(1) Ground Yellow Corn
(2) Chicken Meal
(3) Chicken Fat
(4) Dried Beet Pulp
(5) Corn Gluten Meal

Right off the bat I can tell pretty much what percentage of protein that this formula is going to be by seeing that two out of the top five ingredients is a source of protein. Chicken meal is the most substantive source of protein. Chicken fat is a concern, it has actually been identified as a factor of bloating in large dogs.

It is very concerning to see corn as the primary ingredient. Corn is very hard to dogs to digest and has actually been linked allergies and yeast infections.

It is also very concerning to see beet pulp in the top five ingredients. Beet pulp is a by-product of the manufacturing process of making sugar. It has been linked to all kinds of health problems problems in dogs including ear infections.

Usually, after I look at the top five ingredients I would go down the list and look at all of the ingredients and look for artificial colors, preservatives, and any other suspect ingredients. In this case I can tell from the first five ingredients that this dog food is garbage and will damage my dog's health. But just for giggles let's have a look. I see egg product which is very vague. I would rather see whole eggs. And there's also brewer's yeast. This is a by-product cheap filler. There are lots of higher quality fillers out there. I really don't want to see any by-products in any of the ingredients because that just means its waste from some manufacturing process.

You can see how important it is to look do a dog food review. You can go look at yours right now and check the ingredients for by product fillers, corn meal, beet pulp, and any other suspect ingredients. If you wouldn't feed an ingredient to your dog individually why would you give it to them in a mixture?

It's so important, when another life is depending on you, to do some deep research, read this dog food review, and read as many others as you possibly can.
