Lets go back to your early childhood.
Preview 12... In the last article I covered the first of the "big three" bad habits which most people carry around for the better part of their life, known as lying to yourself. I said, above all else, you couldn’t afford to lie to yourself because it's almost certain death to your business.
Today, let's tackle the second bad habit of the "big three". Better know as the costly habit of procrastination. Every one of us is found guilty of this habit. This habit is learned from the early days of childhood up to the most mature and learned adult. Procrastination …sound familiar?
As a general rule, you may be good, you may even be an expert at doing the things you're comfortable with doing, things that you like to do. But when it comes to doing the things you don't like to do, things that are uncomfortable to you, not in your comfort zone, everyone tends to shy away from the obligations and put them on the back burner for another time or another day.
Are you an expert at making excuses?
You see, we're all experts, we're all experts at making excuses, putting stuff off, putting stuff on the "to do list" instead of on the, "do list". We're experts at putting it off until tomorrow, that which we should be doing today. We're all guilty!
Of all the bad habits that good people, bring to the table of their business, procrastination ranks right up there at the top.
What price do you pay when you procrastinate?
Whenever you put something off, there's always a heavy price to pay. Example, if you don't pay your credit card payment on time, what happens? You get a late charge...it cost you more money, right? Plus, you get a bad mark on your credit score...it cost you more money, right? You see procrastination always has a heavy price to pay.
- If you procrastinate and put off saving for retirement ...you pay the price.
- If you put off talking to your kids about the importance of good grades …you pay the price.
- If you fail to say I'm sorry to your spouse, friend or a co-worker …you pay the price.
- If you fail to show up when you said you would be there ...you pay the price.
Examples of procrastinating:
- Not working your business everyday...you pay the price.
- Not doing what you said you would do...you pay the price.
- Not pointing people to your website...you pay the price.
- Not working and trusting in your DMO and putting things off, that's a bad, bad, habit! …You pay the price.
Basically, when you procrastinate and put things off. All you're doing is exchanging today's disciplines for tomorrow’s regrets. And here's the problem with that. While the pain of discipline usually weighs ounces...the pain of regret weighs a ton.
Do you have the weight of the world on your shoulders?
In addition to the pain of the long-term consequence of procrastination, there's also a devastating short-term side effect. You see, when you put off doing something that you know you should absolutely be doing, you automatically weigh yourself down with guilt. And stack enough guilt, unfinished tasks, unfinished jobs, unfinished stuff, postpone duties, put off implementing your DMO, and postponing your have too's …the next thing you know, you begin to feel like you're carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders. Not good!
Hitting home yet? Anybody relating to this? This is real stuff. This is real life. This is everyday stuff.
It's hard to make progress when you have all this stuff pulling on you, pulling you down. It's really hard to get focused and stay focused. It's hard to make the right decisions, it's hard to make the commitments, it's hard to make that action plan work and it's hard to implement your DMO when your lying to yourself and procrastinating on your DMO (daily method of operation).
Remember, It's your choice you know. You can only improve by doing!
Next you360-13
And let me add one more thing. When trying to make the choices, it might be easier by keeping your health at peek performance …so until the next time …drink plenty of clean, fresh, filtered water with two-four ounces of the "best tasting Aloe vera" everyday.
As always, know your supplier.

Yes ...chaser4 ..this is the biggest time of the year for procrastination. April 15 ...the hardest time to make yourself put that check in the mail or to see if you even need to put the check in the mail.
But business as usual. It does not stop just because we do not want to do it. The things that we do not want to do are always there showing their ugly face.
Thank you for coming by and relating to this article. I think there is something that we all put off to the last minute.
My best to you!
I have to admit, I'm the world's biggest procrastinater. Always put things off until the last minute then try and fool myself that I work best under pressure!
gjcody, I haven't been procrastinating about reading this hub...I just saw it! :P
As usual you hit where it hurts! Though we might not admit it, many of us do procrastinate about important things and it can get mighty uncomfortable. Why do we do this to ourselves?
Cindyvine ..thank your for your comment ...you are definitely not alone. We all have something that we are procrastinators about. ...The not so fun things are really one of the easiest things for us to put on the back burner.
I do believe that if you write it down and leave it in an area that you do not put away, it will always be there reminding you to cross me off.
I know that the computer and our high tech equipment are great tools, but you can't beat the old fashion way ...."write it down!"
I have a list of the things that I want to get off my desk or what ever done laying by my computer (where I am most of the time) and I cross them off as I do them and believe it or not ..it feels good!!! You do have to keep it in your face all the time. If you put the list somewhere that you can ignore it ..guess what? You got it ...we procrastinate looking at it.
So join the feel good society and get it done!
My best to you cindyvine ...stop by soon again!
Thanks Feline Prophet for being here again. I feel I can always depend on you ...I appreciate you!
Let me answer this question "I wonder why we do this to ourselves (procrastinate)?"
One of the major reasons is we don't think that we know how to do it. So we think that we can wait until we learn more about what ever we are putting off. I know there are people here with HubPages that want to write but think that they need to know more about HubPages to write.
So you see, we think if we do it ...it will be wrong and so we put it off waiting until we get it right.
Another reason is people are always getting ready to get ready...and as a result, they are never ready. I know if you write it down, then you will be ready. Do the uncomfortable, until it becomes comfortable.
When I wrote my first HubPage, I read and read ...and then one day I said no more reading ..I took out a sheet of paper and started to write..just told a story and guess what ..it became my best hub yet. So don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today.
Again good seeing you Feline Prophet ...come by again ...my best to you!
I enjoy hearing your views gj! :)
As always Feline Prophet ..I always enjoy seeing your cute little guy. Thanks for being here! My best to your success!
gjcody - Writing it down is a great way to get over the habit of procrastination. Some of us procrastiaters actually forget about doing the important things, or is that just the procrastinater's excuse?
Well ...Dolores ...I would have to say that the important things are the not so fun things. So we don't write them down ...because we don't want to do them or we don't know how to do them. Perhaps we need to get someone to help us and we don't want to ask or make that phone call. Sometimes the phone is a very heavy thing.
I do know that if I write the things down ...it does help. Post the list somewhere that you will see it. I don't care if it is just to get something done around the house. Write the list and you will be surprised how you will want to get the list taken care of fast.
Thanks for coming by Dolores ...my best to your list!

Hello gjcody, looks like you've been reading my mail again. I can remember the early days....yes, these habits are real. I can personally relate to them. It took a long time to really understand how they seem to hide from us, but make no mistake. They are there. Just have to kick them out! This is an eye opener....keep it up!
