Procrastination one two three

One of the banes of any endeavour we undertake is procrastination. It is something we have all experienced at some point in our lives. Show me someone who has NEVER procrastinated, and I will give him/her top ranking on google.

But there really are different forms of procrastination, positive procrastination, negatative procrastination and habitual procrastination. Most people will look at procrastination as totally negative, but there are cases when it could be considered positive. See below for links to other articles detailing this.

The problem with procrastination is not only the act or non-act itself, but also the negative accusations we come up with about ourselves. This means that we go into negative self-talk with ourselves, feeling guilty because we are not doing. The worse we feel, the more negative self-talk. A viscious circle.

6.  You are looking for new video games, because you are bored with the old ones

7.  You are cleaning your home, when it is already perfectly clean

8.  You go to the kitchen for the 20th time to get another snack, cup of coffee, or just to see that everything is all right there

9.  You will not publish your article or finish the project till everything is perfect

10. You think you do your best work under the pressure of a deadline

11. You missed the deadline

12  You find yourself looking out the window and daydreaming, thinking you are thinking

13  You are checking your e-mail once every hour, afraid that you have missed that important message

14  Twittering 50 times a day or updating your comments on Facebook or MySpace 50 times a day

15  You remember you had to make some important phone calls, but you can't remember to whom

16  You find yourself falling asleep at the computer (or maybe you just did not sleep enough, trying to get the things done that you are procrastinating about

17  You keep looking for more information, when you know you already did

18  You are sleeping more than normal

19  You are not chosen to be team member at work, because you always work best under pressure

20  You sleep till noon and then still can't get out of bed and to work

21  You find yourself writing silly lists, like this one, about anything and everything

Hi Birte, This is an excellent list. In fact, I am locking all my doors and checking my windows. How do you know what I do all day? :-) :-)

I'm guilty of all the above forms of procrastination...I even thought about putting this comment on a "back-burner"!

Pete, Star Trek was one of my all time favorites. knowing you I am sure you watched out of your interest in sci fi, and not procrastinating

justbfree - love EFT, but don't do it enough, thanks for being here

Peggy - I procrastinate on #7

Whitkat - no need to lock the door, I could make the list because it's mine and common to us all

manly - total honesty, glad you did not put off your comment here

Grandma, what will you do about that?

I should say that I put the list together tongue in cheek, as I have written seriously about procrastination elsewhere. But at the same time I was also serious about ways that we procrastinate
