I want to take a short break from recipes and culinary tips to say a word about kitchen cleanup. What do you do to clean up food preparation messes and remove food stains and odors from clothing, floors, and other surfaces?
In our house, we try to use exclusively environmentally friendly products for all of our cleaning, so for all of our cleaning jobs we want something that is non-toxic, made from natural ingredients, biodegradable, and sustainably produced. Our favorite product for this purpose is by far Everyday Stain and Odor Remover and Natumate Pet Stain and Odor Remover by the company Earth Friendly Products. They work for far more than just food messes! These cleaners have never failed to bring impressive results, no matter the mess. And believe me, I have tested them quite extensively thanks to the messes that two dogs and a baby can generate.
The unique thing about Everyday Stain and Odor Remover and Natumate Pet Stain and Odor Remover that makes them work so much better than other stain removers is that they are enzyme-based. I have used them on every sort of organic mess imaginable, with always the same results--it is as if the mess never happened. Kitchen messes and spills, human and animal accidents, sweat, blood, vomit, and food stains, all of them have been banished by Natumate, leaving no trace of discoloration or odor, even from the most vile of messes. These enzyme cleaners have saved my furniture, clothes, and floors on numerous occasions.
An enzyme cleaner is literally alive with tiny enzymes that eat your mess, neutralizing it, so long as the mess is made of organic matter. Natumate is completely non-toxic and biodegradable, containing only water, enzymes, corn-derived alcohol, a biodegradable surfactant (derived from coconut), and lemon oil. You just have to be careful to wipe it up after it has done it has job, and do not use other cleaners before it, as they may set a stain or kill the enzymes before they can work. The best part? Natumate is 100% guaranteed, so if it fails, you can get your money back. I wouldn't worry about that, though. Over 100 banished messes in my house say that you shouldn't have a problem.
From Earth Friendly Products website: "In 1993, John E. Vlahakis founded Earth Friendly Products with a simple mission: To provide high quality cleaning products that are absolutely safe for your family, your pets and the environment, made with replenishable ingredients and that compete with the "majors" in performance, price and convenience." All of their products are plant-based, biodegradable, not tested on animals, and made entirely in the United States.
