Hubpages Task Lists - How To Manage Your Hubs
63Hub Project Management
I've spent an hour or so reviewing my progress on hubpages today and came up with a system for managing content, traffic and reputation. You can use a free project planning application such as basecamp to develop a structure and then duplicate the structure for each Hub Project. There are several different online solutions if you are looking for a tool to help you project manage your hubs, which I will review when I revisit this hub in 14 days time.At the moment my personal choice is to use ConceptDraw Project because I already have a copy which I received with a magazine on a software DVD..
7 Day Hubpages Project Plan
What is your Goal
Decide on the purpose of the hubs you are developing and state that in your opening paragraph to keep the writing on track. It can be adjusted before publication if you do not wish the goals to be visible. There are many different objectives for publishing a hub which range from attracting outside traffic from search engines to building your reputation within the hubpages community.
It is useful to know who your writing is aimed at and to target specific keywords (tags) if your main objective is driving traffic.Once this step has been achieved it should be possible to measure the progress of the hub against measurable targets for traffic, reputation, click throughs to affiliate links or whatever using Google Analytics or Woopra
Day One
Start by reading a few hubs and getting a feel for the place. You might also sketch out an outline of a potential first hub (without publishing it) or write 300 words on a topic you are enthusiastic about. I sugggest 300 words as a minimum first draft for an article which may be rewritten several times in the first week of its existance.
Day Two
Read a few forum posts and make comments in any threads you are interested in or have opinions on.Begin to track any hubbers whose opinions you agree with, read their profiles and enroll in their fan clubs.
Day Three
Take another look at that first article you wrote and polish it up a bit, add some video links to relevant content at youtube or wherever and if you have affiliate links which are relevant add a couple in the links section. Feel free to link to resources you think are relevant with or without an affiliate link.I have found that adding a relevant rss feed and news feed increases the traffic to my hubpages.
Day Four
Take another look in the forums and continue to post related content or comments on any thread which catches your eye.
Day Five
Write and publish another hub of 300 words or more.Add Video,Links and Amazon.
Plot out where you might get traffic from outside of hubpages and how you can structure comments on other blogs to drive traffic to your articles here.
Day Six
Post some more in the forums and look for the people whose opinions you disagree with. Track their activity and comment if you are interested in what they are posting.
Day Seven
By the time day seven comes along you should have written and published two hubs to a reasonable standard and know your way around the system and features of the publishing system. Now you can start plotting out your next weeks hubs in advance in a cafe (or wherever you do it) For week two try and write three hubs, take a look at the Q and A section and see if you can respond to any of the requests there.
what I tend to do is buy an A5 size 100 sheet blank recycled pad and carry it with me to and from work so that if I suddenly find I am inspired by a question in my mind or an overheard conversation, it gets written down as a potential hub. Every sunday afternoon I retire to my local restaurant for a sunday lunch of roast lamb plus vegetables and a couple of cups of coffee, where I go through the notes I've made for the week and edit out anything that i cannot develop at that particular time. anything that I feel creative with is then entered onto the hubpages system as a potential hub where it remains unpublished until it reaches 300 words or so plus a video link.If there are products available to develop the topic then I also link to those using affiliate links.

Take The Hubspace Challange
I've just committed myself to 30 Hubs in 30 Days which will require a little bit of organising with the limited amount of time I have available.
This is what I'm doing.....
I've already listed 33 potential hubs based on topics I'm interested in and which require minimum levels of research.Topics I already know something about or can easily track down an authoritative source.
Tonight I sketch out the content for my next seven hubs and tomorrow morning 90 minutes is allocated purely to writing hubs (no forum posts for the next 30 days)
The first of the 30 hubs I will be publishing as a result of the Hubspace Challange is a personal retrospective on the output of Led Zeppelin.
Hub number two is an answer to the question I've been asking myself, why did it take me so long to become active on hubpages?

I've also answered a question about paranormal experience with this hub:

I will also be updating the Grid and have a published version :

Led Zeppelin Chronology
The hub is built around the resources available on youTube plus a chronology of Led Zeppelins output.
Ratio of Hubs to Fans
Just in case this becomes a useful metric to watch:
On May 12th 2009 The ration is 20:35
or 4:7 depending on your inclination. Keeping an eye on this one in case it becomes significant. I might also post a hubbers hangout question to get viewpoints from the most prolific hubbers.
Hubspace Challange Grid
To manage my hub development for the Hubspace Challange I am using a Table of 7 rows by 4 columns (Week one , two, three, four by Hub one through seven.) This gives me a way of navigating effectively to the hub I wish to add content to and to keep track of each hubs progress.
I've also devised a weekly plan One Hub of a thousand words, five Hubs of five hundred words each and one of threehundred.

Daily Traffic Generation
Set yourself up a daily lead generation routine for one of your hubpages every day. If you have 5 hubs you would like to focus on then choose five consecutive days and put all of your energy into finding related forums and places to post links back to your hub. Post to your fa cebook wall and link back from any group on facebook that is relevant and any of your friends who are in a related profession.
My daily routine this week is for my Call Centre Survival Guide and Reiki hubs which have been doing pretty well so far and can always benefit from additional links. I've set aside one hour per day for the week to search out busy forums and become active on them. Next week I start to post links in my signiture file back to these hubs.
