In this article I hope to both bring you to that special moment of the Prom and to elicit some valuable insight into how important the prom dress and accessories are to that day.

For the purpose of taking you into the moment, I will write it in first person. The following is a true story of a friend of mine's life where the prom is concerned. I though it a wonderful story to tell and bring you into. I hope you enjoy this hub/article.

You've been ready for this moment your whole life...- ever since you saw your sister leave for her prom. Nothing has been that cool till her wedding.

You had a great sister who loved to share her life with you and the wisdom of her experience so when she started preparing for her prom you were there every step of the way.

Your sister had the foresight to see that one day this would be your special day and she'd wished she was ready for it like she hopes you will be.

She didn't leave you out to hang out with her friends, she is one of those rare sisters who put her little sister first no matter what her friends think, and in fact she even chooses her friends with care so this was a non issue for her.

Something clicked inside you that week when you went with her to get the dress, to prepare for her hair appointment, her manicure and pedicure. In fact your sister treated you to all of these things as well. You felt like it was your prom too! What a wonderful experience this was... A dress rehersal for your prom at the ripe age of nine years old!

You were there when she tried on so many gorgeous dresses and she relied on your opinion to help her decide. Her friends were cool enough to let you tell her what you liked first.

This experience changed you forever and made you as excited to enter your prom as most women getting ready to get married!

Warp forward- its eight years later and you're a senior in high school....

Now your own prom is only a week away... You're bursting with fruit flavor; you can hardly contain the excitement... But why should you? It's the prom! This is the one school dance that you will never forget. This is the most amazing, the most prestigious, and the most elegant dance of your young life!

This is the Cinderella ball that every young woman gets to attend, and it's finally here!

A trend that is really starting to take off, especially for girls whom can't afford a really expensive dress for the prom, is making the dress yourself! You took a home economics class and learned to sew.

You saw that your sister spent a fortune on her dress but you noticed that two of her friends made their own dresses. You absolutely loved how their dresses looked and vowed one day to make your own dress. Today's prom dresses are charismatic and special, and you believe that making it yourself is like taking your destiny by the horns. You save money but end up with a better dress anyway, a dress made specifically for you.

The other thing that making your own dress guarantees is that nobody else will have the same dress. Yours will be completely unique all the way; just like this experience every woman cherishes her entire life. Your sister's insight to let you in on her special prom day has helped you tremendously to plan yours with surgical precision!

You started learning to sew at nine years old. You went online and started learning all about patterns and downloading them. You've had 8 years of practice on your mothers sewing machine, and you've become quite good at making dresses. You even made your own dresses for school and have always recieved great compliments on your "style".

When you were younger you practiced by making clothes for your dolls. You had the best dressed dolls in all the world and this helped to spark your intrests in style.

You may even start a company after high school making prom dresses for other people, you think to yourself as you sew your gorgeous dress together. Nothing will fill you with more pride than to hear people tell you how much they like your dress and ask where you got it... You can tell them you made it yourself!

When you made your own dresses for school your unique creative styles and insights came out in your work. People would often come up to you and ask you to make them a dress and this filled you with so much pride, as well as experience! You also made a modest income so you learned that you can make money doing what you love as well!

Your sister prepared you for much more than just the prom, she prepared you to see your best talents and skill sets.. She prepared you for your future!

Although your dresses were always admired they needed a great pair of shoes to really put them in the game. The dedication and materials needed to make shoes would be too much and besides that wasn't your niche anyway so you always bought your shoes. You did however dress them up a bit still!

With all the money you saved making your own dresses as well as the money you made making others dresses shoes were one of your passions because a great dress is made more prominent with a great pair of shoes!

Your sister prepared you for this as well. She had over 300 pairs of shoes in her closet, and when she saw what you've become in the dress making skill sets, she wanted to show her unending pride in you by giving you some of her favorite shoes she'd bought over the years!

She told you that your dresses made her shoes more beautiful and so you started to create dresses that made those shoes look fantastic. At first you made dresses and matched the shoes to them, but as an experiment one day you decided to get the shoes you loved first then made the dress that was both spectacular and made the shoes look amazing!

You even started to make your sister dresses to make her other shoes look spectacular as a thank you for her being your inspiration all your life.

This story is a true story of how a friend of mine turned something like the prom, an inspiration to her at the ripe age of nine, because of her sisters amazing kindness and love for her, into a life long endeavor!

Her prom dress was truly incredible and everyone wanted to take pictures next to her. She ended up making over 20 dresses for her friends to wear to the prom. She had the foresight to start making them at the beginning of the year and would give them to her friends as birthday presents with a card in them saying something like "I made this beautiful dress to show the world the amazing potential and beauty I see in you... I want you to honor me by wearing it to the prom".

This was an amazing gift as each dress truly did show what each person's personal gift in beauty was, not just externally but internally. They loved them and all wore them happily to the prom. In fact when word got around that several of her friends had personal dresses made her other friends became excited around their birthday!

When it came time to make her own prom dress everyone pitched in and gave her money, as a thank you, and since they all saved hundreds on buying their own dress, not to mention had a more beautiful dress than they ever could have found on a rack!

They all wanted her to be able to go out and buy her dress, to take a break from working with the insight that the person making the dress would enjoy more someone else's work... But she couldn't do that, she loved it too much, and she did something spectacular with the money that no one expected...

She paid for the Limo rides and even the dinner celebration after the prom dance... She gave back like this all the time, she was well loved for her big heart and generosity.. She always wanted to share her passions with others.

The prom is a very special time for any girl going to any school. The prom is the hallmark of the zenith of the high school celebration just before graduation. It marks the most important time of your high school career is coming and gives people a chance to express themselves in all their glory.

Most women hold on to their prom dress for many years, sometimes passing it down, much like a wedding dress. Although you may not want to make your own dress or you may not have a friend who can make you a dress, the prom is about self expression and fun.

It's the celebration for making it through high school and a benchmark of your high school journey coming to an end and a new era of college will be soon upon you where you will make your life's most important decisions.

In some ways I think the prom is both a celebration and an awakening of your soul, a chance to look back and be proud of all you've accomplished both socially and academically.

Picking our your dress is a very important and fun event. You have in this day and age some resources that were not available to people only 40 years ago, so you should use them to find your perfect dress and style, and to learn about your options when it comes to the prom dress.
