Pros and Cons of Living in a Big Home
75Pros and Cons of Living in a Big Home
Living in a big home can have its pros and cons. Big home can be found all over the world at different prices. One home with 4,000 sq feet could be worth $500,000 in Texas and a home in California, same size, could be $2,000,000. Big homes come in all different shapes and sizes. The diversity of big homes makes them enjoyable to look at and even live in. Normally, people consider big homes to be 3500+ sq feet, 4+ bedrooms, 2+ stories, 3+ car garage, 4+ bathrooms, and a game room or two for some fun. Some of the richer homes can have media rooms or secret rooms.
Pros:
Space
Space is an important aspect of a big home. A big home obviously has a lot of space and elbow room. If you have a big family, big homes are benefits. All of the children can have their own room and so can the adults.
Entertainment
I live in a big home and one thing my family loves to do is have parties. Not the wild, beerfest parties, but have some friends over or the soccer team over. Another thing big homes have are pools. Pools provide great fun for the whole family. Have some friends over, cookout, and swim!
Another entertainment room can be the game room. The game room is where its at. You got your pool/ping-pong table, bar, poker table + chairs, and your TV. The game room is a good place to just chill and talk.
Cons
Keeping it Clean
If you have a big home, odds are you have kids. Kids are wild and crazy. Keeping your mansion clean is one tough job and cannot be carried out by just one human being. That would be one, stinking awesome person, but its impossible. The blinds need dusting, the rooms need cleaning, the garage and patios need sweeping, the laundry needs to get done. All these plus a lot more is one big disadvantage of living in a big home.
Bills
Ah great, another bill! Bills here, bills there, bills everywhere! Obviously a big home will generate a lot of electricity, water, and heat/cold air conditioning. Along the years, I have found out some ways to trim down the bills, one dollar at a time. If you work from home and have a window in your office, use the sun instead of the ceiling lighting! Sorry, but there isn't many ways to cut down on water since we need it to live and stuff... Heating and air conditioning bills can be easily brought down. If its hot in home, open a window or turn on the fan! If it is cold, cover up (best i got)! My guess is if you can afford a $3,400,000 dollar home, you can afford the $454.65 electric bill!
Lawncare
Most big homes are located on big lots. Big lots = a lot of grass and yard space to work on. Now, there is always the route to hire some people to mow your lawn, do your landscaping, trim the bushes and trees, etc. But if you want to save some money, do it yourself! Doing yard work yourself will impress the misses and will give you that 'yeah, I did that' feeling. Plus, its also fun and can be considered exercising.
Safety
In my opinion, this is the most important issue in dealing with big homes. By owning a big home, you are basically showing everyone who you know or who drives by the house that you have alot of money. What do crooks love? Yes, the Ben Franklins (get it?). Anyway, some big homes these days come with alarm systems, but it is a wise decision to get one if you don't. Keeping you and your family safe is very important.
Well, I hope you learned some advantages and disadvantages of living in a big home! Thanks for reading and happy livin!
