Work at Home Moms in America

The perils of stay at home Moms are real in America.  The nature of this country has been to hang onto youth as long as possible.  Because of the youth oriented society, Americans are taking better care of themselves.  Remember the TV show with Michael J. Fox, Family Ties?  His parents had another little one after the other kids in the family matured.  The parents were in good health and well fit to handle another child.  So are the perils of being a stay at home Mom having to raise children in their middle years.  Though the Mom in that TV show worked in an architectural firm, one of these days that Mom will have to retire and the baby by that time would be a teenager.  The TV mom’s income will be cut or diminished upon retirement.  The limited income is another peril of being a stay at home Mom.  With the limited income, that teenager may displace her terms of endearment with disdain especially if the father does not include her in the family’ financial planning and the family’s decision making.  There may not be a father figure in the marriage.

So why the long introduction to “Work at Home Moms in America?”  Unlike the Family Ties TV show which is fictious, the perils of a stay at home Mom is real.  She has to be careful that her status in the family is not muted or demoted along with the job demotion, lay off or retirement.  The stay at home Mom must garnish the respect of her children with service or deeds if this trait has not yet been instilled.  Dependent upon the relationship with the financial  head of the household and how he controls the family finances, the stay at home Mom may be in peril in keeping a good reputation with the kids as a viable part of the family.  Kids have the tendency to think their father is the Rock of Gibraltar and that the buck stops there.  The stay at home Mom is considered the easy one when making special requests.  The stay at home Mom’s transparency in the wake of this incident may make her feel less of the decision maker regardless of how many meals she put on the table.  The fallacy  here  is that the Mom most of the time knows these kids through and through.  The perils of the stay at home Mom  can only be dealt with  if she is able to trench out a place in the family of honor, respect, and equality in the major decision making department.  The perils of the stay at home Mom in America is real.
