Protein test to detect kidney trouble early
69Kidney troubles
Check in time
A majority of those afflicted with kidney problems are diagnosed after the vital organ has suffered more than 50%of damage .doctors say increased levels of serum creatinine are not a real marker for kidney disease because by the level touches 2mg/dl,60 percent of the kidney is already damaged ,they say protein tolerance test can help diagnose the problem at an early stage .
Increased serum creatinine level is often considered the first sign of a renal problem ,but now the doctors say it may not be so .By the time the serum creatinine levels increase .a good amount of irreversible kidney damage is done .Doctors now stress the need for the tolerance test on the kidney in patients who have low glomerular filtration rate. (GFR)
WHAT IS GFR?
GFR describes the flow rate of filtered fluid through the kidney.
GFR for men is 100--110 ml/min
GFR for women is 90--100 ml/min
Protein tolerance test :--
those who have GFR less than 70 ml are considered considered for this test ,in this a patient is exposed to high level of protein and his/her GFR is calculated in a span of two-three days ,the GFR should increase by 20 %without protein leaking into the urine .
Our kidneys have many functions to perform to keep us alive. They are as such
- wastes and extra fluid from our blood is filtered by the kidney
- we must take care to keep the proper balance of minerals like sodium, phosphorus, calcium, and potassium in our blood.
- kidney helps to maintain a healthy blood pressure in us by regulating how much fluid flows through the bloodstream of a person and manufacturing a hormone called rennin that assist or work with other hormones to expand or contract blood vessels.
- kidney helps to make hormones that keep our blood and bones in healthy conditions
How can we protect our kidney?
Monitoring our kidney is a good way to protect it .Our doctor should monitor our kidney functions by checking our blood pressure and testing our urine and blood once a year. keeping a check on our blood pressure is another important way, as we see high blood pressure can damage kidneys.A high protein compared to creatinine ratio in urine (that is greater than 30 milligrams
of albumin per 1 gram of creatinine) indicates that kidneys are leaking
protein that should be kept in the blood is passing into our urine .
GFR calculation is necessary it uses the patient’s creatinine measurement along with
weight and age, along with sex and race . If our GFR stays consistently below 60, we are
considered to have chronic kidney disease.
Preventions:--
eat sensibly:-including fruits, vegetables, grains, and low-fat dairy foods. Limit your daily salt (sodium) intake in your diet .Limit the consumption of alcohol and caffeine.Avoid high-protein diet control blood pressure:-keep it below 130/80. Great care should be taken in selecting blood pressure medicines, avoid injury::-Avoid sports like boxing, football, and hockey and discard the use of motor bikes encourage yourself to engage in some form of physical activity, but wear safety guards to avoid injury.
