Provillus Review

Provillus was founded in 2002 and is quite well known for it’s products Provillus for Men and Provillus for Women. They are members of the Natural Products Association and are “dedicated to providing safe and effective products that help people supplement their lives.”

Hair loss Information

This review is intended to investigate the effectiveness of Provillus as a product so we won’t be going into detail about the causes of hair loss. However, an overview may be useful in understanding how Provillus actually works.

Needless to say, hair loss can cause many people embarrassment and anxiety. Not only that, it causes a disruption to normal life as some people may become obsessed with trying to conceal early hair loss by changing their hairstyle, wearing hats (even though they may not particularly like them), avoiding being in photographs and even avoid meeting up with friends and relatives in case “they notice” the change in your appearance.

On the other side of the coin, hair loss sufferers may think to themselves that they should just “get on with it” and try to believe that it doesn’t matter how they look because it’s all about being yourself etc. In reality this is difficult and the vast majority of people deep down knows that they would much prefer to have a full head of hair than be without.

So what’s my point here? Many people are in the same situation too and there is not yet a magic pill that suddenly gives your hair back like you had when you were 15 years old. This is why I’m assuming you are doing some research to find out what works and what doesn’t. After all, every company claims that their hair product is the best right? But not only that, you are smart enough to ignore all the sales talk and find out what the real deal is.

Here are our findings:

How does Provillus Work?

Research has shown that the cause of hair loss is due to DHT (dihydrotestostrone) which is derived from androgen, a male and female hormone. The androgen circulates through the bloodstream, then is converted to DHT by the enzyme, 5-alpha reductase. DHT binds to hair follicle receptors, causing the follicles to sprout thinner and thinner hairs until no hair re grows, and the follicles eventually die.

This is the theory on how Provillus works:

Firstly, it blocks the DHT from binding onto the hair follicles. Secondly a blend of natural herbs known for it’s hair restoring properties is used.

Does Provillus Work?

The million dollar question! Well here is what we found:

We investigated the effectiveness of Provillus from various sources including clinics, forums, focus groups and user comments and found that it does work for the majority (approx. 75%) of people who use it as directed.

We found the general consensus is that the younger you are, the higher the success rate but this is likely to be coupled with the fact that the lesser the severity of the hair loss, the greater the success.

In terms of male pattern baldness, Provillus seems to work particularly well on the crown and also the temples although anecdotal comments suggest a higher success rate on crown than temples.

The average time it took for any effect was found to be between 8 weeks to 18 weeks.

More information can be found on the Provillus site.

How is Provillus Used?

The topical solution is applied directly to the scalp morning and night.

Note there have been reports of some staining on pillows so be careful you don’t apply excessively.

The dietary supplement is taken as a tablet morning and night also.

Safety and Side Effects of Provillus?

The active ingredient in Provillus is FDA registered so it is regarded as safe to use.

The most common side effect some people experience is itchiness of scalp and some dandruff (which seems to be solved with the use of an anti dandruff shampoo.)

Also if you suffer from skin complaints such as Psoriasis or Eczema, this may not be the best solution for you as it could potentially irritate your skin.

Do not use on animals.

Other rarer side effects can be seen on the Provillus site.

Provillus Conclusion

Pros:

  • No prescription required, saving time and medical bill
  • Generally safe and works for the majority of people
  • Good customer service consensus from users
  • Discreet mail packaging

Cons:

  • Not suitable for those with skin conditions
  • Need to have discipline to apply day and night
  • Does not work well for older people
  • Does not work for illness or drug related baldness

Recommend?

Based on the feedback and established nature of Provillus as a company and product, this seems a viable recommendation for those looking for a hair loss solution.

Price?

Prices can vary depending on the offers available. We would not recommend buying at full price as there are offers on most of the year. Check the Provillus site for the latest offers.
