Grab some friends and spend a night out doing something different.

Do you enjoy going out with friends? Check. Do you enjoy showing off that your knowledge of The Simpsons or of Canadian rockers is equally as important as that $80,000 education? Check. Do you enjoy beating the obnoxious know-it-alls next to you at the bar and then gloating? Check. Do you enjoy games like trivial pursuit? Check.

Pub quizzes cover everything from global history, current events, sports, entertainment, geography and much more. And, what’s more fun than spending a weeknight out with friends at a neighborhood establishment? We don’t know either. Plus, the entry fees are usually collected and awarded to the winning team! And if mom calls and asks why you’re spending your Tuesday at a bar, tell her you’ve given up the lame American Idol to learn instead!

Below is a list of Chicago area establishments that host pub quizzes along with the date and times of each weekly event:

Chief O’Neill’s Pub (located at 3471 N. Elston) – This pub quiz has been ranked top in Chicago by the Chicago Tribune. Chief O’Neill’s Pub is an Irish bar which has a menu of Irish offerings. The bar also hosts live music, but not coinciding with pub quiz nights. Check out the pub’s website which features sample questions to test your knowledge! Play pub quiz at Chief O’Neill’s Pub every Tuesday night at 8:00. Admission is $5.

The Globe Pub (located at 1934 W. Irving Park Rd.) – Like it’s name suggests, The Globe Pub is an international friendly bar, often displaying football (aka soccer) games on their in-house TVs. The crowd is diverse as so are The Globe’s drink offerings, featuring beer from over 15 different countries, including several variations of brands like Delerium, Young’s and Sam Smith’s. Head to the back room here to play pub quiz at The Globe Pub every Tuesday night at 8:00. Admission is $5.

Schoolyard Tavern (located at 3528 N. Southport) – The Schoolyard is a great place to grab a drink with friends or dive into some above average bar food (note, get the Tater Tots). Although, unlike many of the pub quizzes on our list, The Schoolyard’s which is located in their back room, is announced aloud as opposed to over a PA system, which can occasionally be difficult to hear. But if you can man it, you’re sure to enjoy yourself. The Schoolyard also offers appetizer and drink specials. Play pub quiz at The Schoolyard Tavern every Tuesday night at 8:00. Admission is $5.

The Local Option (located at 1102 W. Webster) – While you’re there enjoy one of their well known monster sized salads or something from their New Orleans themed menu. In the heart of Lincoln Park, this bar is located very near DePaul University. The announcer here always seems to keep the game lively. Play pub quiz at The Local Option every Wednesday night at 8:00. Admission is $5.

Ginger’s Ale House (located at 3801 N. Ashland) – Ginger’s Ale House features a variety of draft beers as well as a menu featuring Irish and English fare. While not playing participating in pub quiz, regulars come here to watch soccer and rugby matches. Play pub quiz at Gingers Ale House every Thursday night at 7:30. Admission is $5.

*As a reminder, it is suggested to arrive at least ½ hour early to ensure getting a table at most pub quizzes.

Pity I don't live anywhere near Chicago 'cos I love trivia games and quizzes of all kinds. I guess you could call me a trivia junkie.
