Amazon's Kindle

What’s an Amazon Kindle? Amazon Kindle is a wireless and portable electronic reading device. In fact, it’s a revolutionary new way of reading books. It has an electronic-paper display that looks like a real newspaper and moreover it has a sharp, high-resolution screen. Kindle does not need computer, cables or wi-fi spots to operate and it allows reading on the go. It also has an adjustable text size, qwerty keyboard and a built in dictionary. You can even view Word docs and pictures in formats like jpeg, giff, bmp or png. Above all, its battery life extends up to a week. Furthermore, you do not need to bookmark this handheld as it remembers the last page you read and opens it up for you automatically. Its wireless connectivity enables you to shop the Kindle Store directly from your Kindle, no matter where you are!

Now, Amazon has launched a Kindle Publishing for Blogs program. What’s that? Kindle Publishing for blogs is a fast and easy self-publishing tool that allows bloggers to sign up and upload their blogs(or any RSS feeds) for sale in the Kindle Store. This facility is available to all bloggers worldwide. Kindle blogs are auto-delivered wirelessly to the Kindle and updated throughout the day.

Getting started:

• You need to create a separate account for the program. Your current Amazon or Kindle account isn’t enough.
• You have to provide your contact information, your payment information including your tax ID number and bank account information.
• International publishers will be able to receive their funds via a U.S. check.

Once you have a Kindle Publishing account, you just have to provide your blog’s RSS feed, a description of blog details, blog category and a screenshot image of your blog home page and banner or logo of your blog. Preview your submission, press Publish and that's it! You are done! Once Amazon approves your blog, the blog will be published in 48-72 hours. It will then be available to Kindle users on the Amazon Store and also Amazon Associates where customers will view your blog before subscribing.

An important note:

Don’t worry if you do not have a Kindle device to test the layout of your blog on the e-ink screen. At the time of adding your blog ,Amazon offers a preview feature so you can see how the feed will appear on the Kindle screen .Now is this not cool?

How much will you earn? Amazon decides the rate which is usually $0.99 per month for most blogs, and some top blogs can draw upto $1.99 per month. Amazon will share 30% subscription revenue with you. There is no way you can distribute your blog for free, either.
Kindle provides its subscribers the full blog articles and just not excerpts.Secondly, Kindle will download the entire blog content so that the subscribers can read the blogs even while offline.

You may not make a ton of money from the Kindle, at least for now, but then, at least it widens the reach of your content and your blog will get more exposure in the long run. Thus you can publish your blog on the Amazon kindle and Kindle store and Amazon will share revenue with you for every Kindle user who subscribes to your feed.

Very interesting article - thank you! Do you know if this would count as duplicate count? Would your blog entries be posted in their entirety on amazon.com?

Very interesting. Any idea what kind of blogs get selected?

they must not want pure weblogs right?

@Girlie..I dont know about duplicate content, will check it out for you.And yes, your blog entries will be posted in their entirety and unlike RSS readers which only provide headlines, blogs on Kindle will contain the full text content and most images.

Kinda interesting to try, but it seems like the amount of money you can make with this is pretty limited, unless you are a well known blogger.

This is interesting but I don't like the idea of providing tax file no and bank account details upfront.

I think Kindle is a Great idea but i don't have one, like most of these devices it seems to be buy unseen, that is not very satisfactory. I WONDER WHAT OTHERS THINK.

I wanted to buy Kindle for my dad but due to support issues in India I didn't go for it. Thanks for letting us know more. Thumbs up for good info. :D

@girly_girl09 : As far as I know, there will not be a duplicate content issue. Search engines will not be able to index Kindle blogs since the content is available only upon monthly subscription.
