Publishing A Book Isn't All That Hard

I am in the process of writing a book. In fact, I'm a couple, and from my vantage point, which is one nearly ready to go to a literary agent, and one at the second draft, I realize that this might seem easy for me to say but, publishing a book isn't hard. Or difficult or complex. It's like writing a daily hub. I make the time.

The ultimate goal of course is to publish a book, but each day I set goals and try to work in those goals. I write anywhere between 200-800 words per day. The 200 is a bit low, but that is when I am in the process of editing a draft. By the time I cut parts that don't work out, and correct a few sentences, I usually add about 200 words.

Every day I do this. It is the same with my blog. It's too important to miss too many days, or people who read will be lost to other blogs. I believe in this blog. Same way I believe in publishing my own book.

Not that I can do it alone, I write alone, and I edit as best I can alone, but there is always someone else I go to to read it or to find out what isn't working or is working. It would be hard if I wrote something wonderful and then toss it out.

A the fine art of publishing a book.  It is so much fun to see a book published.  Thw writing is good to, but that not what I'm writing about in this hub!

publishing a book can mean that you get some money.

Publishing Anyone?

Yes, once my work is done, there is the fine art of a query letter. I've worked long and hard on mine, even now. Why start a query letter while you're writing, you're busy working towards the goal of publishing a book?

Easy, because if it's a fiction book, you'll need a literary agent. If you want to go it alone, be prepared for 15-100 page contracts. Publishers do this. They tell you who gets what. The publishers will want rights, and so will you.

So a literary agent isn't all that bad. They can make the contract negotiations easy on a writer. I can't and don't have the time to read through a long contract and understand it the way they can. I focus on the hard part, content writing of my books.

The hard part? I know, you are probably thinking the title says publishing a book isn't hard! I said that, but I also said that writing isn't as easy as it looks.  It takes more time to write a good book or article than it does publishing it.

Hands up, how many times do you read in the introduction that the writing took a year or more, and the research took longer?  So what does a year to get it published mean to this writer?  Nothing really the writing was the hard part.

My Own list to make things easier to get a book published:

Have a marketing plan and a business plan.

Have an Awesome Query Letter

Have a great Literary agent

Have an even better editor.

Have passion for what I'm writing about.

Most of all have a sense of humor.

It's really easy to believe that publishing is the hard part, but really I think it is the writing and getting the manuscript to the publisher that is harder.  All you have to do after getting ti to a publisher is follow their instructions and they do the printing of your manuscript.

This is a very interesting and informative article, Rebecca E, but I wonder about the impact the the current recession on book publishing? Even former publishers of mine have put a hold on things.

Greetings Rebecca E,

I've been trying to write a book over the last 5 years. Everytime I start out with a subject/idea, I'm moved to write something else. Any helpful suggestions?

For me, I find that if deep down my work isn't what I want to do I want to write something else. I found that an encouraging person and a hard and fast deadline helped as well. Asking why am I moving away from this also is a big factor.

I like what you're saying here, and what you said in your about the 10 things every writer needs. I feel like im stepping over into the tedious world of writing with not but a desire to write...which may be fine, but Im sure you're right, and Im sure I'll need more equipment, other than my writing, when it comes to traveling this road. I do want to make this my career, and I really do feel blessed with an ability to make it a successful one.

I am new to the hubpages and blog circuit, formeyly keeping my work to myself while struggling through doubting the caliber of my stuff and being unsure of how to go about letting others give feedback on it. I am trying my hand at a novel, and i have a few friends who read it, but nobody who is seriously into writing like I am, or who have any real advice or tips. Also, I'm not sure if it would be a good Idea to blog or hub-page-post my progress on the novel...I did post a prologue, and some character/scene sketches on my page, but was reluctant to post any chapters until I could find some sound advice about doing that.
