Sunday's in Puerto Vallarta are family days. Everyone gathers the family together and heads down to the malecon, a wide sidewalk that goes along the sea side. When in Mexico... My Mom lives here for a large chunck of the year so we met up and spent some quality family time together. There is live entertainment including bands and dancing, food stands that sell everything from taco's, crepes, pies, corn on the cob and hot dogs and fries. There are also vendors and artists selling their wares and making the products while you watch. There is also a sand sculpture exhibition which is very well done. There are a lot of people and vehicle traffic pretty much comes to a complete stand still resulting in a symphony of horns all with custom tunes, my personal favorite is la cucaracha. After a few passes on the malecon we stopped in at a place called the Cheeky Monkey for a $1.00 Margarita. Turns out that was only for the regular lime which I'm not a fan of so we splurged and got the $2.00 fuzzy navel ones, very tasty and awesome service. Great view of the malecon so good people watching.

I have tried a couple of hotels here including the Posada Roger and Posada Lily. Both are located in Old Town the Roger runs about $50.00 US a night and is about 4 blocks from Los Muertos beach. The Lily runs about $35.00 a night (has wireless Internet on the 1st & 2nd floors) and is 1/2 a block from the beach (has no pool). Both are very basic hotels so if 4 & 5 star are your thing these are not the places for you. They are both on noisy streets so not for folks who have sleep issues. The Lily has no web site but I have included a picture of a room. Both are within a 5 minute walk from the finer drinking establishments in town including the famous Andales where you can watch silly human tricks and the only club in Vallarta with live R&B/Rock the Roxy (which doesn't get going until 12:am but is open till 7am ish...) They are both within a 5 minute walk of the Malecon and the open air markets by the river and the flea markets as well as downtown where there is a Starbucks for those who can't live without their fix.

A few years ago I stayed at the Buenaventura hotel (won the trip as a prize at work), it is downtown and a good location. All inclusive are not my thing but if you have to do it I think it is a better option than Nuevo Vallarta if you like to leave the resort and explore. In old town for a better class of hotel I have had folks tell me Los Arcos is very good.

Wireless Internet is pretty much everywhere most of the restaurants have it so if your accommodations don't you can take your computer for a beer. There are also many Internet cafes if you don't have a computer with you. As my business is a people search web site this is mucho important to me.
